It is presented a detailed development of the Feshbach-Villars formalism, which consists in a Hamiltonian formulation for the Klein-Gordon theory. A few misconceptions found in the literature related to that formalism, such as normalization, expectation value and the effect of charge-conjugation transformation on the charge current, is pointed out. Then, the proper treatment for those quantities is presented. In addition, a scalar coupling never accounted before in the Feshbach-Villars formalism is investigated
