The union of nickel superalloy and steel compliment the best properties of each other and make extreme condition applications possible. This is evident when considering the oil and gas industry, drilling tools, connectors and applications that require great mechanical resistance, and chemical corrosion resistance. With that scope, this study's intent is to compare the coating methods of Inconel 625 on steel SAE 4130 by TIG and LASER welding, in microstructures, microhardness and wear, using an optical microscope, Vickers test, and standard ASTM G65, respectively. The microstructure and the microhardness tests were performed using the specimen with both welding methods, TIG and LASER, while the wear test was not possible to be performed due to the lack of specimen. It was noted that the interdendritic spacing and HAZ (Heat Affected Zone) showed a greater difference by the two methods used, where higher values were shown by TIG, while for LASER, these values were about eight times and twenty-five times smaller, respectively. By consequence, the average hardness result from the specimen's profile was smaller, while superficial hardness values were extremely high, due to hardening. The wear test performed in the specimen of TIG method showed reliable and reproducible results, with loss of mass of 0,843g for five minutes and 1,463g during ten minutes of testing. The difference in both methods caused bigger microstructures, with bigger interdendritic spaces and formations of secondary arms for TIG welding. Due to the smaller cooling rate, this affects the micro and macro hardness grain refining, and consequently, its wear. Care was needed for the machining of the specimen after coating because it was responsible to generate a hard, thin surface layer. In regards to its own thickness, it hasn't affected the analysis of the whole ... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)

The main objective of this work is to analyze the influence of weathering on the mechanical properties of poly (ether-imide) / glass fiber composites. In order to achieve this objective, test specimens of this laminate were conditioned in hygrothermal, UV radiation, salt spray and thermal shock chambers. In a second step, the effect from these conditions were evaluated by optical microscopy and mechanical tests of traction and shear interlaminar. The innovation of this project, when compared to the results available in the literature, is in two main points: systematic evaluation on the influence of sudden temperature variations and the use of thermography techniques during the tensile tests, which will allow the evaluation of the voltages generated during this test. Nevertheless, the other conditions are also necessary since there is still no consensus in the literature about the real effects resulting from these conditions. From this work it can be concluded that the decrease in interlaminar shear strength after the etchings was small for the hygrothermal and thermal shock, intermediate to UV radiation for 600 hours reasonably high for the salt spray. However, the decrease in tensile strength was low after UV, salt spray and hygrothermal conditioning and there was no change in thermal shock. With the FT-IR analysis, the UV radiation results showed that the composite does not lose its structural integrity

The aim of this research is to investigate the meaning of the demonstrations and proofs in mathematics on the different historical ages of this science, since the ancient age, when in mathematics started a movement to methodize the knowlegde of mathematics. We began this text showing some definitions and considerations about what is make a demonstration in mathematics and we presented some examples of different ways to demonstrate in mathematics along its history, since ancient Greece until the 19th century. Along that period there were philosophical schools as logicism, intuitionism, formalism. Those philosophical schools built the basis for the demonstrations in mathematics nowadays. It's a qualitative research developing in the phenomenological approach according to the hermeneutical procedure to understand what were considered demonstration in mathematics along the history of its science

Basic sanitation and more specifically the treatment of wastewater are essential processes for the preservation of the natural resources of the planet as well as the health of the population. In rural areas the treatment of effluents is often left out because of the lack of infrastructure for collection and treatment. Sustainable alternatives for the treatment of effluents involve the social, economic, environmental and are the subject of study of this work. Through a literature review, five types of effluent treatment applicable in rural areas were analyzed, meeting the needs of the residents, low cost and ease of installation and operation, in context of Sustentainable Development. The treatments analyzed were: Constructed Wetlands, Septic Biodigestor, Sand Filters, Surface Drainage and Evapotranspiration Tank. In order to choose the most sustainable treatment alternative, economic, environmental and social issues were presented in the form of seventeen indicators analyzed for each alternative studied, so that experts attributed weights to each one of them for the composition of the so-called composite indicator of global sustainability, obtained through the use of the AHP (Hierarchical Analysis Process) decision-making method. In the economic sphere TEvap was the best treatment system. However, when analyzing the global indicator, it is observed that the Biodigestora Fossa is the treatment that presents the best solution for rural areas, while the use of sand filters is the least indicate

(Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), 2017-12-14) Leite, Fernando Valério Idalgo [UNESP]; Ferrandini, Peterson Luiz [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
Surface properties of an engineering component are determinant for its performance. Thus, there is a large number of studies concerning clad components in order to enhance service life and, many times inconel is used as a cladding material. In this work, Inconel 625 was deposited on an AISI 4130 steel substrate, using SMAW and commercially available flux coated electrodes. Three clad beads were produced using 110 A, 140 A and 170 A andit was observed that raising welding current from 110 A to 140 A lead to an increased deposited volume and raised dilution from 31,8% to 44%, while hardness lowered from (201±5) HV to (183±6) HV. When raising welding current to 170 A, both dilution and hardness presented less pronounced variation, 52% and (176±3) HV. Inter-dendritic spacing variation was even less pronounced. It was concluded that there was no linear growth of the deposited volume and the thermally affected zone; the microstructures obtained were similar; the interdendritic spacing increased slightly; there was a clear change in hardness; and the structure of the ZTA showed to be martensitic due to the fast extraction of heat

Adverse environmental conditions, such as climate change and large emissions of pollutants in the atmosphere, together with a new economic initiative in sustainability, bring a need to react with investment and research on the world's energy consumption policy, with the encouragement of alternative energies. For these reasons, renewable energies have been highly developed in the energy matrix in recent years, demonstrating their importance in Brazil and in the world. Another worrying environmental issue is the poor utilization and distribution of urban sewage in Brazil, since much of the sewage collected is returned to the environment without treatment. The production of biomass derived from sewage treatment is an alternative that incorporates the sustainable use and exploitation of a source of energy little used. The present work aims to address the conceptual and technical aspects related to the recovery and energetic use of the derivatives of sanitary sewage treatment, analyzing existing implementations and possible innovative alternatives to verify the feasibility for future projects in Sewage Treatment Stations in the country and in the world

The necessity of remaining competitive, by reducing costs and increasing productivity while simultaneously improving quality, has led the steel industry to seek transformations aimed at continuously improving the manufacturing process of liquid steel. In this context, the concept of energy consumption and consumption of inputs has been studied in recent years, mainly in papers that demonstrate technological advances in the steelmaking process in Electric Arc Furnaces (EAF). There is a large variation of total energy consumed in EAFs, being measured in the primary side of the transformer, the reason is the use of different technology processes. The use of oxygen in the process brings great benefits both in the removal of some disposable chemical elements and in the reduction of the consumption of electric energy. Therefore, since the steel mills use different proportions of electrical and chemical energies, it is relevant to discuss energy consumption. The present final paper considered the influence of parameters in the electric circuit affecting the consumption of inputs and in the energy consumption, besides the proof that the quantity of loads and fluxes in the EAF influences in the increase of the electric energy consumption

The interest in the analysis of thermal comfort in aircrafts is growing more and more due to the special limitations of air conditioning systems and the thermal environment characteristics of an aircraft cabin. The main objective of this work is to calculate the Mean Radiant Temperature (tmr) in the heat exchange between the passenger and the cabin of an aircraft, using a model through a computational tool to facilitate the input data and calculations necessary to estimate the value of tmr. Firstly, a review will be presented with all the necessary concepts about heat exchange by radiation and thermal comfort. Studies will be presented in different way to obtain the mean radiant temperature at different points in the cabin. The work analyzes the heat exchange by radiation between the cabin and a passenger, which is sitting next to the cooler wall near the window. Through a model developed in a computational tool that allows through specific initial data, is going to be calculated the value of the tmr and the values of the Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) index and the predicted percentage dissatisfied (PPD) to estimate thermal comfort. Thus, data taken from tests and experiment performed on real commercial aircraft, aided in calculations performed through the model in order to make the results obtained as close as possible to the real values. Finally, a comparison was made between the values obtained in the studies in which this work was based on and the values found through the applied methodology. Therefore, making possible to understanding the importance of the use of measuring instruments and the less simplification possible in the calculation, for a greater accuracy of the value of mean radiant temperature, and the impact on the index of thermal comfort

Torrefação do bagaço de cana-de-açúcar para seu uso como combustível em reatores de gaseificação
(Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), 2018-04-24) Araujo, Paulo Henrique Gomes [UNESP]; Pedroso, Daniel Travieso [UNESP]; Carvalho Júnior, João Andrade de [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
The high availability of sugarcane bagasse in the Brazilian market makes the use of this biomass attractive for advance energy valorization technologies in the sugar-alcohol sector. The entrained flow gasification technology is a good option for the energetic valorization of this biomass, due to the fact that this type of reactor presents high efficiency and is well established in the international commercial scenario. To feed this type of reactor, a pre-conditioning of the biomass through the torrefaction process is necessary. In this work, a theoretical study of the torrefaction technology was carried out as a new technology for the pre-treatment of sugarcane bagasse, capable of conditioning this biomass, and to overcome the technical problems existing when continuously feeding a gasifier with this fuel. An analysis of the energy impact of the incorporation of this process in the industry was carried out, with the aim of assessing the viability of its introduction, considering three cases. In two of them the biomass gasification integrated to a combined cycle is the process used for the generation of energy in the plant (BIG-GTCC total) and in a third case, the cycle is used in the generation of additional energy using only the excess sugarcane bagasse of the plant (BIG-GTCC partial). It is concluded that the implementation of a gasification system in the entrained flow gasifier with a previous treatment by torrefaction of the plant excess sugarcane bagasse is the most energetically viable option among the studied cases

Coil tension springs are machinery elements widely used in machines and structures. The need to predict there mechanical behavior in a more affordable and practical way makes the finite element analysis desirable for any project. In this work it was intended to reproduce the tension springs behavior, as well as parallel and series association of springs in a tensile test. Investigations under the spring material were made with the add of metallographic and mechanical tests. Three simulations were built: a spring under tensile load and two springs in serie and parallel. It was realized that the structural system pre-analysis is the key to a major approximation of computational results from the real and teorical ones

(Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), 2017-11-28) Viola, Matheus [UNESP]; Ávila, Ivonete [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
Currently, not only in Brazil, but also all over the world, one of the most discussed topics in the energy field is related to the availability of energy resources and its use in existing machines. Based on this, there is a need to optimize the performance of current engines, considering the possible blends between fossil and renewable fuels. These different blends have influence on the operating parameters of an engine (power, voltage, current) as well as exhaust gases emitted (CO, CO2, NOx). Thus, in this undergraduate thesis, it is proposed to study the performance of a power generator and also to evaluate the emissions generated during the combustion of different gasoline-ethanol blends for different loads applied. The tests were performed on a power generator coupled to an internal combustion engine (Otto cycle). The experimental workbench was instrumented in order to measure the values of voltage, current, power and the emissions generated during the combustion. The statistical methodology called Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was applied with 3 replicates at the center point, 4 axial points and 22 combinations, totalizing 11 trials that were randomly performed, varying the percentage of ethanol and also the applied load. Based on the measurements, the response surfaces were obtained, and the statistical significance was determined by the analysis of variance (ANOVA). It was observed that the increase in the ethanol percentage in the blend had a small influence on the operating parameters of the power generator, but it was observed that the variations in the percentages of each one of the fuels had a big influence on the exhaust gases like CO2, NOx and O2

This work consists on a statistical study of an industrial welding process that consist on a forming and welding pipes plant from coils and plates. In it, we will study the influence of oscillations on three parameters that we consider the most important Welding Voltage (V), Welding Current (A) and Stickout Speed (mm / sec). We will use statistical analysis to find the optimization equation of the system through software such as Minitab, as well as the lower and upper control limits, Average of the parameters in the process, the variance and the standard deviation of the parameters, to understand how to improve the industrial process, minimizing problems and focusing on critical parameters. With the results obtained we will present them to the studied plant, verifying the possibility of using the optimization equation obtained in the graduation work, thus confirming that the path taken for the improvement of the theoretical process is also applied in practice, being able to reduce cost and process time. We hope to conclude with the project the best working conditions we can use so that the variations are controlled in a way that minimizes them

Studs are applied in the Brazilian petrochemical industry to join together flanges or equipment connectors in marine environments, where fluctuations of the tensile stress at the studs occur due to the variation of the pressure in the oil well or due to the ocean waves movement, causing the fatigue mechanism. Due to the corrosive operating environments, frequently the studs undergo a cadmium electrodeposition process. However, cadmium is harzadous to the environment and to human health. Anticorrosive coatings influence the fatigue resistance, and its influence has to be evaluated in order to ensure structural integrity. The feasibility with respect to the fatigue behavior of the substitution of electrodeposited cadmium for a zinc-nickel alloy on AISI 4140 steel was investigated in this work. The fatigue behavior comparation was made through the analysis of AISI 4140 steel S-N curves in axial fatigue for studs, specimens in accordance with standard, and threaded specimens. The Weibull distribution was used to perform the statistical analysis of the fatigue behavior. The finite element analysis was used to quantify the stress concentration. The optical and scanning electron microscopies were used to perform the microstructure and fracture surface analysis, respectively. The stress concentration effect due to the threads of the studs had more influence than the cadmium or zinc-nickel coatings in the fatigue behavior of AISI 4140 steel. The material covered with electrodeposited cadmium presented a similar fatigue behavior to the base material, which can be attributed to dehydrogenation treatment. The material covered with a zinc-nickel alloy presented a small increase in the axial fatigue resistance, which may be related to a lower tensile residual stress value than the presented by the base material. The substitution of the ... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)

The development of the machining of hardened steels is a current phenomenon derived from a marketing guideline of cost reduction and production time tied to the challenge of the sustainability of the manufacturing processes in general. This results in the need to develop machines with high rigidity and accuracy, tools with high hardness and wear resistance at high temperatures, efficient lubrication and cooling methods with low socio-environmental impact, as well as optimization of cutting parameters, which have significant influence on the desired quality parameters. This paper proposes to study different cutting parameters for optimum combination in order to obtain satisfactory results in the asymmetric front milling of AISI 4340 hardened steel through the use of minimum quantity lubrication and coated carbide tools. For this purpose, tests were performed in which sets of cutting parameters (cutting speed, feed rate and cutting width) varied for two conditions of coated carbide tools (PVDTiAlN and CVD-TiCN-Al2O3). The analysis of the results was based on the evaluation of the milling cycles in relation to: roughness, machining power, acoustic emission, vibration, qualitative tool wear and chip shape and type. It was concluded that all parameters significantly influence the surface quality of the machined part, so that the best condition for asymmetric front milling with minimum quantity lubrication of the AISI 4340 hardened steel comprises: cutting speed of 200 [m / min], feed rate of 0.1 [mm], cutting width corresponding to ¼ of milling cutter diameter and PVD-TiAlN coated carbide tool. In addition, it has been found that the mean roughness values obtained in all the tests, and especially those resulting from the conditions described above, are comparable to those required in the grinding process ...
