(Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), 2017-11-06) Silva, Priscila Mary [UNESP]; Rode, Sigmar de Mello [UNESP]; Joias, Renata Pilli [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
This study evaluated the treatment of patients with TMD of muscular origin, a functional alteration that affects the masticatory function, and may or may not be associated with pain. Twenty-eight individuals aged 18-44 years, classified according to the RDC, were selected according to pre-established inclusion and exclusion criteria, among those enrolled for treatment in the COAT of the ICT-UNESP, formed two groups: G1 treatment with 2 mm thick occlusal plates and G2 treatment with a 4 mm thick occlusal plate that should be used during nighttime sleep. For the analysis of the electrical activity of the anterior temporal and masseter muscles of the left and right sides of the face, electromyographic examinations were performed; and ICM and algometer (objective pain analysis) were used to assess the signs and symptoms that characterize the clinical evolution, and for VAS, subjective pain was assessed. All parameters were performed at four times: at the beginning and after 1, 2 and 4 months of use of the plaque. Statistical analysis of the data was performed using the Wilcoxon paired test (between the times) and the unpaired Wilcoxon test (between groups). VAS decreased in G1 (84.4%) and G2 (98.8%), ICM (60.5%) in G1, and G2 (73.9), LDP increased in both groups in m. (50% in G1 and 26% in G2) and in m. masseter (53.3 in G1, and 35.2% in G2). Resting EMG showed alteration only of m. masseter in G2 in T1; in MVC in m. masseter in G1 in T1 and T4. The two plaques were effective and statistically similar in relieving muscular TMD

(Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), 2017-11-09) Nogueira, Andrea Souza [UNESP]; Borges, Alexandre Luiz Souto [UNESP]; Quishida, Cristiane Campos [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
The objective of this study was to synthesize and characterize morphologically the nanofibers (NF) of Polietilmetacrilato (PEMA) with titanium dioxide (TiO2) produced by electrospinning technique. 2,5gr of PEMA were dissolved in 6,75gr of 1,1,2,2- tetrachloroethane and 3,337gr of 1,1,2,2-dimethylformamide. Then0 added 0,405gr of TiO2 in the solution. For electrospinning technique, the equipment consisted of a high voltage source, a plastic syringe with needle, straight tip and the NF obtained were collected in metal bulkhead to 10, 12 and 15 cm from the tip of the needle. The applied voltage was 17KV and the flow ejection were 0, 05ml/h and 0, 08ml/h. the diameter and morphology of NFs obtained were evaluated with the aid of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and the diameter measured by the software Image J. The technique applied resulted in nanofibers misaligned. The nanofibers obtained by 0,08mL/h flow showed average diameter of 0.15 ± 0.07 μm. For the stream 0, 05mL/h the average was 0.14 ± 0.03 μm. The averages didn't show statistically significant differences among the samples. As for morphological analysis of NF a reticular formation showing that the distance of 15 cm from the tip of the needle to the bulkhead not optimized the production of NF. From the results we can conclude that the method employed was efficient for the production of NFs. And the more efficient parameters were the distance of 12 cm for two reasons, keeping constant the voltage of 17kV

In recent years the use of skeletal anchoring devices as a coadjuvant in orthodontic treatment has demonstrated high versatility, clinical application, and good results, especially regarding the use of mini-implants and miniplates. These devices appear as an alternative for cases where anchoring becomes a critical factor for the success of orthodontic treatment and are characterized by obtaining a fixed point of anchorage within the oral cavity, which facilitates orthodontic movement. In this work, we seek to carry out a literature review, collecting information such as characteristics, indications, installation sites and advantages and disadvantages

Teeth with canal treatment present a natural weakening and consequent increase of friability, making them susceptible to root fracture, mainly in the antero-superior portion, in which they are mainly subject to oblique forces. From this it is necessary the intra-radicular anchorage, providing better biomechanical conditions of the crown / root assembly to receive the prosthetic restorations. In addition, the indication of intra-radicular retention is also dependent on the amount of coronary tooth structure. However, deciding which type of retainer will be indicated for each case has become a clinical dilemma, given the wide varieties of materials and techniques available. From this, the use of metallic post showed a high incidence of root fractures and those of glass fiber failures in cementation. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the advantages, disadvantages, indications, contraindications, and techniques of two different types of intra-radicular posts currently used: intracanal metallic post and fiber glass post. In short, the proposal is a careful evaluation of these elements, as well as the best clinical application, aiming for longevity, functional and aesthetic success

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of whitening mouthwashes used before toothbrushing on abrasive wear on enamel. Eighty bovine enamel specimens were obtained. Initial Knoop microhardness and profile of each surface specimens were measured. The specimens were randomly distributed among 4 groups (n=20): PW: Plax Whitening; LW: Listerine Whitening Before Brushing; U: Ultradex; C: Control. The specimens were immersed in mouthwashes for 1 min and brushed in a toothbrushing machine with 10 strokes, using a slurry composed of diluted dentifrice in artificial saliva (3:1). The specimens were washed with ultrapure water and immersed in artificial saliva for 30 min. A total of 540 cycles were performed. Final microhardness and surface roughness were reassessed and the surface loss in micrometers was measured. The specimens were immersed in saliva for additional 30 days and microhardness was performed. One-way ANOVA and Tukey tests were performed to analyze data (5%). Significant differences were observed for microhardness after treatment (p= 0.000045) and enamel loss (p=0.00001). For Tukey test: Microhardness: U (320.08±13.86)a, PW (323.58±32.75)a, LW (331.66±24.74)a, C (354.24±16.40)b. Wear (μm): PW (10.03±0.94)a, LW (9.92±0.81)a, U (8.88±1.02)b, C (6.56±0.91)c. After the immersion in saliva for 30 days, no significant statistics differences among the groups for microhardness were found. In conclusion, the use of mouthwashes reduced the enamel microhardness and increased enamel loss in comparison with control group; and the chlorine dioxide-based mouthwashes promoted the highest enamel loss compared to the peroxide-based ones

(Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), 2017-11-10) Lima, Leonardo Custódio de [UNESP]; Kimpara, Estevão Tomomitsu [UNESP]; Miranda, Jean Soares [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
The aim of this research was to evaluate the biaxial flexural strength of a lithium disilicate ceramic (LD) cemented in different substrates (epoxy resin - G; or metal - M) with different cements (resin cement - P; or zinc phosphate - Z), whether or not subjected to thermal aging (E). Eight groups were made (n=10): PG (LD+P+G); PM (LD+P+M); ZM (LD+Z+M); ZG (LD+Z+G); PGE (LD+P+G+E); PME (LD+P+M+E); ZME (LD+Z+M+E); ZGE (LD+Z+G+E). The metal disks were all blasted with aluminum oxide. The DL and G discs intended for adhesive cementation were conditioned with hydrofluoric and phosphoric acid respectively. The luting process was performed with the aid of a standardized device with a 750g load. The biaxial bending test was performed with a universal test machine with a load cell of 1000KgF at a speed of 1mm min until some type of failure was detected. A specimen of each material (LD, M and G) with and without surface treatment were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy. The three-factor ANOVA and Tukey tests revealed a significant effect of substrate (p=0,000) and aging (p=0,02), significant interaction between substrate/aging (p=0.03) and cement/aging (p=0.047), but there was no significant interaction between the three factors (p=0.071). The highest values of resistance in MPa were found in the groups ZM (459,80), PM (353,50), PME (287,10), ZME (193,80), followed by PG (60,20), PGE (59,69), ZG (54,64) and ZGE (44,49). The microscopy images revealed a change in the topography of the materials after the surface treatments performed. It can be concluded that the substrate and aging significantly modified the resistance of lithium disilicate to the bending test. However, the cement type did not show significant difference between the groups, since, depending on the substrate, the cementing agent presented a different behavior

(Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), 2017-11-06) Gonçalves, Natália Inês [UNESP]; Borges, Alexandre Luiz Souto [UNESP]; Santos, Jéssica Dias [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
The aim of this study was to synthesize and characterize non-woven webs of polyethylmethacrylate (PEMA) nanofibers with the addition of antifungal nystatin. It was prepared PEMA diluted in dimethylformamide and 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane and nystatin was then added, resulting in a concentration of 10mg/ml. Then, nanofibers was synthesized by electrospinning technique. Samples were obtained by varying the voltage and distance from the tip of the needle shield. Morphological characterization was obtained by scanning electron microscopy images and the diameter of the NFs was measured by the software Image J. The physic-chemical characterization was obtained by: wettability analysis, X-ray diaphrametry analysis (RXD) and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). The applied technique resulted in misaligned NFs and the variation of the parameters affected directly in the morphology of the fibers. The smaller diameter presented was 0,867 μm. Nanofibers were considered hydrophobic by means of the wettability analysis. The RXD and the FTIR proved a presence of PEMA and suggested a presence of nystatin

(Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), 2017-11-07) Pereira, Natasha Livramento [UNESP]; Leite, Horácio Faig [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
Mastoid foramen (MF) is an accident located at the posterior part of temporal bone, near occipitomastoid suture. We studied 350 dry human skulls (700 sides) without identification of sex or race, belonging to the Anatomy lab of Institute of Science and Technology, São Paulo State University (Unesp), Campus São José dos Campos. Some characteristics about MF were observed and we also studied the classification of the skulls using the cranial index. We analized the presence/absence of MF, its incidence regarding to the side, number of forams in each skull and in each side of the skull, the MF's location regarding to the occipitomastoid suture and to the Frankfurt plane, the distance of each foramen to this plane and the measures of the súpero-inferior and lateral-lateral diameters of each MF. The results have been statistically analized and the existence of a relationship between what we found and the classification of the skulls was observed. We found dependence relationships between the cranial index and the DSI (the measures were statistically higher in the mesocephalic skulls) and between the index and the location regarding to Frankfurt plane, on the right side of the skulls (in most cases, the forams found in different locations on the same side were present on the mesocephalic skulls). The anatomical and morphometric knowledge about MF and the relations of this structure with surgical repair areas are very useful in the studies about the hominid evolution and in surgical procedures at mastoid region

The aim of this study was to evaluate the hydrogen (HP) and carbamide (CP) peroxide degradation in prefilled trays (PT) and customized trays (CT), in a randomized clinical trial. Volunteers (n=10) were randomly divided in 3 groups (n=10), according to bleaching gel (CT-HP: White Class10%; CT-CP: Opalescence PF10% and PT-HP: Opalescence Go10%). The bleaching treatment was performed for 14 days with use-time of 2 hours for CP. On a predetermined day, the bleaching gels samples were collected from the upper and lower trays in each period (initial, 15, 30, 50 and 120 min) and the HP concentration was determined with potassium permanganate titration. The degradation was calculated based on initial concentration (IC) of bleaching gels. Repeated measurement Two-way ANOVA and Tukey test (5%) were performed. Significant differences for bleaching (p=0.000004) and tray (p=0. 000595) were detected, but there was no difference for interaction (p=0.630261). Comparing the percentage degradation values obtained by difference between initial and final concentrations of bleaching gels (IC= 100%), it was observed that CT-CP presented lower degradation (61.85±10.65)a when compared with hydrogen peroxide in PT and CT (71.55±8.24 and 78.69±9.33, respectively)b. The bleaching gels presented higher degradation rate in lower trays in comparison to upper trays after two hours of use. In conclusion, the bleaching gels presented progressive degradation over time and there was no interference of type of the trays in degradation, considering bleaching gels PH 10%-based. The gel degradation was higher in lower than in upper trays

Avaliação da distribuição de tensões em diferentes espessuras de laminados cerâmicos em pré-molares superiores - table top
(Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), 2017-11-09) Silva, Roberta dos Santos Rangel [UNESP]; Andreatta Filho, Osvaldo Daniel [UNESP]; Borges, Alexandre Luiz Souto [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
The present study evaluated the stress generated in upper premolars rehabilitated with ceramic fragments of lithium disilicate on the occlusal surface (Table top). Through the CAD software (computer aided design) an upper premolar was modeled following its anatomical references. The dental tissues were individually modeled, containing enamel, dentin and periodontal ligament, and the main anatomical points were used as parameters for model creation. It was also modeled the geometry of the ceramic fragment that varied between the thicknesses: 0.5mm, 1.0mm and 1.5mm. The solid geometries were exported to the analysis software in STEP format. The materials were considered isotropic, homogeneous and linear. The values of the elastic modulus (E) and Poisson's ratio (v) of each material were informed according the literature. A load of 200N was applied in the central region of the occlusal surface, simulating an axial masticatory load. The required results were at maximum principal stress (MPa) according to the failure criterion of the materials analyzed (tensile stress). It was possible to observe significant difference in the results between the analyzed groups. So, the results showed how thinner the restoration, higher the tensile stress concentered. Thus, through this methodology, it was possible to conclude that more conservative occlusal ceramic fragments present worst mechanical behavior, but the three groups of restoration analyzed would support the occlusal rehabilitation of upper premolars

(Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), 2017-11-09) Pampuri, Camila Reis [UNESP]; Pucci, Cesar Rogério [UNESP]; Torres, Carlos Rocha Gomes [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
The objective of this study was to evaluate in vitro the effect of the use of calcium phosphate and application of laser in the permeability of human dentin and bond strength, modifying the application technique of the universal adhesive system for the purpose of forming a dentine with permeability reduced. Dentine discs were used with approximately 6mm in diameter and 1,5mm height, obtained from healthy human molars. Dentin permeability was measured in four stages: initial, maximum, during treatment and after treatment. After specimens standarization (n = 40) were divided into two groups with (CFC) and without (SFC) the application of calcium phosphate and then was divided into two subgroups, resulting in 4 subgroups (n = 10):, AL- Adhesive + Laser, FAL- Calcium phosphate + Adhesive + Laser, LAL- Laser + adhesive + Laser, FLAL- Calcium phosphate + Laser + Adhesive + Laser. The application of Nd: YAG laser with energy of 60 mJ was without contact. The results of permeability showed that groups LAL (Laser + Adesivo + Laser)(p=0,005) e FLAL (Fosfato + Laser + Adesivo + Laser) (p=0,0001) promoted significant reduction betwen inicial and final permeability. We used the Single Bond Universal (3MESPE) and after curing we restored with Filtek Z 350 XT (3M ESPE) of approximately 1mm in diameter. The specimens was submitted to 1000 thermal cycles, and later was used microtensile test. The data were submitted to the Tukey test (α = 5%). It was observed that in the bond strength the Phosphate application presented the highest mean, which differed statistically from the group without application of the Phosphate and the different treatments did not present statistically significant differences. In addition, they were observed in scanning electron microscopy (SEM)....(Complete abstract eletronic access below)

A wide use of chitosan biopolymer in the synthesis of biomaterials is remarkable. Together, the use of herbal medicines in the health area grows to present antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. Thus, the objective of this study was the morphological characterization of the chitosan solution electrospun fibers associated with rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis l.) and birch (Betula pendula). For this, three solutions were prepared, one of pure chitosan (Ch), one with rosemary extract (ChAl) and another with birch (ChB) inclusion. These were electrospun under different parameters: electric voltage, distance and flow rate, generanting differentiated membranes. Thus, analyzes were performed in Scanning Electron Microscope to measure the mean diameter of fibers and counting of granules. The micrographs with effective fiber formation were selected for analysis in software image. It was possible to observe statistical difference of the mean diameter (p<0.0001) between the three membranes of quitosan with rosmarinus, ChAl1 (0.64±0.31μm) and ChAl2 (2.04±0.80μm) and ChAl3 (2.03±0.52μm). Regarding the formation of granules, significant difference (p=0.0002) between ChAl1 and ChAl2 and ChAl3. However, the chitosan membranes with birch, presented a statistical simillarity between ChB3 (0.70±0.23μm) and ChB4 (0.77±0.33μm), presenting larger diameters than ChB1 (0.40±0.10μm) and ChB2 (0.56±0.23μm). In addition, ChB exhibited granule formation with significant differences among combinations of synthesis parameters (p<0.0001) with ChB4 (1,312±1,662μm) being the one of smaller formation. With this, it is possible to conclude the inclusion of the phytotherapics Betula pendula and Rosmarinus officinalis I. influences the morphology of the chitosan fibers

Avaliação da dureza vickers nas cerâmicas de dissilicato de lítio submetidas a diferentes protocolos de fadiga
(Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), 2017-11-10) Faria, Thais Cristina Valentim [UNESP]; Kimpara, Estevão Tomomitsu [UNESP]; Barcellos, Aline Serrado de Pinho [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
Lithium disilicate ceramics are especially indicated for anterior teeth rehabilitation due to the physical properties that assure translucency and tonal variability. However, their lower mechanical properties limits indication for posterior teeth. This study analyzed vickers hardness of a simulated condition of a posterior three fixed partial denture submitted to different protocols of laboratory and intrabuccal aging. Twenty-four specimens were prepared from IPS e.max CAD ceramic blocks (Ivoclar Vivadent, Schaan, Liechtenstein), divided into four groups (n = 6): control (C); mechanical cycling (MEC); thermomechanical cycling group (TM); intrabuccal cycling (CIB). A durometer hardness tester was used by a load of 19.6 N for 20 s. ANOVA and Tukey test ( = 0.05) were applied. A significant difference was found (p = 0.028): C (570.5 ± 13.05), CIB (565.5 ± 14.79), MEC (563.2 ± 18.08) and TM 601.5 ± 36.40). TM group presented the greatest hardness and the CIB group had the lowest coefficient of variation. Therefore, comparing to the other aging methods studied, intra-oral cycling represented a superior detrimental hardness

(Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), 2017-11-09) Arantes, Gabriela Souza [UNESP]; Torres, Carlos Rocha Gomes [UNESP]; Batista, Graziela Ribeiro [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
The aim of this study was to evaluate the erosion-preventive effect of different artificial saliva formulations in vitro. Cylindrical dentin samples were obtained from the roots of bovine teeth, they were embedded in acrylic resin and, after polishing, the surface profiles were measured using a contact profilometer. Subsequently, the samples were randomly distributed into 10 groups (n = 20), according to the storage medium. The tested solutions were: deionized water and 4 solutions of artificial saliva according the formulations described by Klimek, Vieira, Eisenburger and Amaechi. For each of them the addition of mucin was made or not. The samples were stored in their respective solution for 120 min under mechanical stirring. They were then subjected to erosion for 60s with HCl (pH 2.6) and again stored for another 120 min and then subjected to a second cycle of erosive challenge (HCl, pH: 2.6, 60s), after that the profiles were measured again. The data were analyzed in relation to their normal distribution using the Kolmogorov Smirnov test and the statistical analysis was performed using the ANOVA 2 way (saliva type and presence of mucin) and Tukey's test (α = 0.05). The results of the ANOVA test showed significant statistical difference for the factor saliva type (p=0,00) and for the interaction between them (p=0,04, for the factor presence of mucin there was not statistical difference (p=0,36). The results of the Tukey test were: Deionized water: 4.60 ± 0.91 A; Deionized water + Mucine: 4.07 ± 0.93 AB; Amaechi: 3.72 ± 0.83 BC; Klimek: 3.60 ± 0.91 BC; Amaechi + Mucine: 3.34 ± 0.73 BC; Vieira: 3.31 ± 0.60 C; Klimek + Mucine: 3.27 ± 0.57 C; Vieira + Mucine: 3.20 ± 0.58 C; Eisenburger: 2.36 ± 0.45 D; Eisenburger + Mucine: 2.18 ± 0.54 D. The conclusion is that the addition of mucin to the solutions did not increase the effectiveness in preventing tooth erosion. Avaliação do potencial remineralizante e protetor de um novo dentifrício associado a um gel dual a base de silicato de cálcio e fosfato de sódio contra o desafio erosivo- abrasivo do esmalte
(Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), 2017-09-11) Maia, Morgana de Menezes [UNESP]; Borges, Alessandra Bühler [UNESP]; Zanatta, Rayssa Ferreira [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
The aimof this study was to compare the remineralizing and protective effect of a new dentifrice composed of calcium silicate, sodium phosphate and sodium fluoride, associated to a serum potencializador, claimed as anti-erosive. Sixty cylindrical and highly polished enamel samples were selected and randomly divided into 6 groups (n=10) according to the dentifrice used: Wel (Weleda - 0 ppm F), T12 (Colgate Total 12 - 1450 ppm NaF), PAER (Colgate Pro-Relief Enamel Repair - 1450 ppm sodium monofluorophosphate, 8% arginine), PE (Sensodyne Pro-Enamel - 1425 ppm sodium monofluorophosphate, 5% potassium nitrate), Reg (Regenerate/Unilever - 1450 ppm sodium monofluorophosphate), RegGD (Regenerate + Serum - 1450 ppm NaF). After measuring the initial microhardness (Knoop, 50g/10s) and profiles (contact profilometry), the specimens were submitted to an erosive challenge with citric acid (1%, pH 3.9, 2 min, 4x/day), followed by immersion in artificial saliva (Klimek, 1h, 6x/day) and abrasion (10s, 200g, 2x/day), for 5 days. The initial remineralization and protective effect was measured by microhardness which was obtained after the first acid (KNa1), after the first treatment (KNt) and after the second acid (KNa2).For the initial erosion, NaF, NaF/PN and MPF/Arg promoted enamel rehardening, but only NaF/PN and MPF/CSSP/BS protect it. For the dentin, NaF/PN, MPF/CSS and MPF/CSSP/BS presented significant rehardening ability. Regarding surface loss, all dentifrices promoted similar enamel loss (except NaF/PN, which presented higher values) and for dentin, MPF/CSSP/BS presented a lower loss than NaF/PN, MPF/Arg, and MPF/CSSP. It must be concluded that NaF/PN and MPF/CSSP/BS exhibited the highest protective effect against initial erosion for enamel and dentin, nevertheless, they were not able to maintain this superior protective potential with the persistence of the erosive/abrasive challenges in relation to the other products tested

Avaliação da resposta muscular eletromiográfica antes e após o restabelecimento da dimensão vertical em pacientes desdentados totais
(Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), 2017-11-08) Pereira, Ana Aline Alves [UNESP]; Borges, Alexandre Luiz Souto [UNESP]; Paes Júnior, Tarcisio José de Arruda [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
The edentulous patients have as a consequence a relative loss of their masticatory capacity. It is well known that the maintenance of the masticatory function is especially important in edentulous patients, mainly due to the limitations found in rehabilitations by total dentures. The decrease of vertical occlusion dimension may compromise aesthetics and cause morphological and functional alterations such as hypoactivity of masticatory muscles and reduction of masticatory strength. Electromyography involves the detection and recording of electrical potentials of muscle fibers, making it possible to evaluate the function of the muscle in activity and integrity of this system. Therefore, this present work has as general objective to make a comparative analysis of the strength and electrical activity of the masticatory muscles; the superficial masseter layer and the anterior temporal of three edentulous patients with reduced vertical dimension, and who were subsequently subjected to prosthetic rehabilitation treatment. For electromyographic recording, the six-channel EMG-800C (EMG System do Brasil Ltda) electromyograph was used, previously calibrated. Four input channels were used with active electrodes with 20 times amplification gain. At the same time, the masticatory strength was evaluated through a force transducer, linked to the system. All participants of this study were evaluated clinically and electromyographically before and after (about 30 to 60 days) the manufacturing of dentures under parameters of mandibular rest and maximum voluntary mandibular contraction. It was observed an increase of the Masseter and Temporal muscles activity (bilateral), in the two conditions of muscular activity, suggesting an increase in motor tone and increment of new motor units, after the installation of the prosthesis, thus improving the pattern of muscle activity followed by restoration of the appropriate ...(Complete abstract eletronic access below)

Objective: To evaluate the visual perception of observers (lay person, undergraduate students and dental professionals) on the surface gloss of resin composite, under different illuminants. Methods: Twelve cylindrical specimens (S), with 6 mm in diameter and 1 mm thickness, was fabricated in nanofilled resin composite (Filtek Z350) in color A2E. The polishing of S was performed for division into 6 groups, with surface gloss values at 10, 25, 40, 55, 70 or 85. The polishing protocol and gloss values for each group was determined by pilot tests. A gloss meter for flat and curved surfaces - NOVOCURVE (TM RHOPOINT, East Sussex, England) was assessed the surface gloss of specimens. Fifteen subjects from ICT - UNESP were selected, 5 lay people, 5 undergraduate students, and 5 dental professionals. They signed the written informed consent form for participation in the study. The participants observed each S in comparison with a standard in bovine enamel in a light box (MM-2e / UV Konica Minolta), under different illuminants (D65 - natural light, A - incandescent light, and F - fluorescent light). Each observer will performed 18 readings. Observer classified the degree of surface gloss according to S comparing to the standard, following the parameters: a - S presents less surface gloss than the standard, b- S presents similar surface gloss as the standard, and c - S presents greater surface gloss than the standard. Observations were also made in comparison between ES and in this case the comparison criteria were: 1 - the two specimens have the same brightness or not? 2 - If not, which has the highest brightness? The data....

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of adding calcium ions and fluoride in the formulation of a whitening gel 35% hydrogen peroxide in its penetration through the dental structure, whitening efficacy and surface hardness of dental enamel. 80 teeth bovine incisors were used, which were obtained enamel and dentin disks of the buccal surface with 6mm diameter and 2mm thick (1 mm of enamel and dentin 1mm). The samples were divided into four groups stratified according to the protective substance / remineralizing added to the gel of hydrogen peroxide 35%: Group Ca - Calcium gluconate 0.5%; Group F - Sodium fluoride 0.2%; Group Ca + F - Calcium gluconate 0.5% and Sodium Fluoride 0.2%; Control group - no substance was added. The initial color of the samples and the hardness of the enamel were measured before the bleaching procedures. The specimens from each group were placed on a metallic support on which there was a simulated pulp chamber, which was filled with acetate buffer to collect and stabilize the penetrated peroxide. The respective bleaching treatments were applied 3 times, total of 30 minutes of application. The amount of peroxide which passed through the samples was determined by absorbance spectrophotometry. The hardness of the samples was measured immediately after bleaching. Next, the samples were immersed in artificial saliva for 7 days, after which the final color was evaluated. Data were statistically analyzed adopting a 5% significance level

Influência da incorporação de nanofibras de poliamida 6 com e sem nanotubos de carbono como reforço de prótese parcial fixa adesiva
(Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), 2015-10-09) Girotto, Bruna Costa [UNESP]; Borges, Alexandre Luiz Souto [UNESP]; Souza, Ana Carolina de Oliveira [UNESP]; Costa, Anna Karina Figueiredo [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
The aim of this study was to evaluate the behavior of reinforced composites with polyamide 6 fibers aligned (6000 rpm) and alignment (120 rpm) with or without CNT using the flexural strength test. After preparation of nanofibers aligned nylon 6 (6000 rpm) and alignment (120 rpm) with and without incorporation of nanotube carbon by the method of electrospinning, were performed one control group (n = 10) and 4 experimental groups (n = 40) G1: Control (just resin Charisma - Heraeus Kulzer) ;G2 Resin + N6 aligned (6000 rpm) + CNT; G3:Resin + N6 alignment (120 rpm) + CNT; G4: Resin + aligned ( 6000 rpm) N6. G5: Resin + N6 alignment (120 rpm). The fibers were cut to the dimensions of 0,3 x 15 mm and were applied an adhesive at the surface (Single Bond 2) for 5 min and cured. In the matrix, was added resin in the proximal box (Charisma A2, Heraeus Kulzer) and cured for 40 s. (power 1100 mW / cm²). A first layer of resin and on the resin was deposited. The resin layers specimens were light irradiated with three overlapping exposures delivered. For each resin layer were light irradiated for 40 sec. The samples were tested with a cross-speed of 1 mm / min, and a 50 Kgf at Universal testing machine (EMIC mod.DL2000). The Dunnet test showed that only the nanotube group was significantly different from the control group. The ANOVA two-way indicates that the nanotube factor was statistically significant (p < 0.05) and there is no interaction between factors and orientation nanotube. The presence of nanotube showed lower fracture resistance values for aligned and unaligned groups. The results of this study showed that the orientation of the fibers does not influence the strength of composite resins and the incorporation of nylon nanofibers with carbon nanotubes decreased the fracture resistance values. The presence of the fibers has not been able to improve the strength of the material in any of the...

(Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp), 2015-10-07) Santos, Nathalia Curto dos [UNESP]; Almeida, Janete Dias [UNESP]; Carta, Celina Faig Lima [UNESP]; Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
Survivin protein is an inhibitor of apoptosis that plays a role in cell cycle control and the mechanism of carcinogenesis. The aim of this study was to verify the clinic pathological correlation of survivin expression in exfoliative cytology of chronic smokers, mucosa of patients with intra-oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and also from mucosa after surgical removal of OSCC. Patients were divided in 03 groups: Group 1: 26 patients who smoked more than 20 cigarettes/day/10years with no history of oral malignant neoplasm, or any clinical sign visible at examination. Group 2: 26 patients who had OSCC and Group 3: 22 patients surgically treated of OSCC for at least 01 month. Immunohistochemistry of the smears from each group was analyzed by light microscopy to extent and intensity of survivin positive cells. Survivin expression was observed in 100% of cases in group 1, 88.5% in group 2 and 100% in group 3. Groups 1 and 3 showed cytoplasmic expression in 100% of the cases, while group 2 showed it in 87.5%. Cytoplasmic and nuclear expression was 7.69% observed only in group 2. The results were association with clinicopathological data by Fisher's exact test and it was significant to smoke cessation in group 2 on intensity (p=0.015) of survivin expression. The intensity of survivin expression was related to smoking cessation in group 2. Smoking history (pack/years) showed no influence survivin expression
