Uma abordagem comparativa da ironia: conceito, tropo e performance

We pursue in this paper an understanding of irony which is shared by both the German author Friedrich Schlegel and the critic Paul de Man. Irony is rather understood as a trope and as a performative act than as a concept, which has indeed consequences to the very legibility of texts.

Analysis of mixing construction and demolition waste with soil for embankments

In some countries, there are cases of inadequate destination and even final disposal of construction and demolition waste (CDW), which contributes to environmental degradation and material wastes. The construction sector is a great consumer of natural resources, and CDW can sometimes be useful to minimise the need for natural materials, including embankment filling, which could use a large volume of material. In these cases, the use of CDW can be promising if the embankment quality is not affected; and it will have a great economic advantage. This paper aims to assess experimentally the feasibility and potential benefits of employing CDW mixed with soil in embankments. CDW samples were collected from three recycling facilities in Brazil and mixed with lateritic soil. Compaction tests determined optimum parameters of the lateritic soil, and the soil mixed with 25 and 50% of CDW. The maximum dry densities of the mixtures changed slightly compared to natural soil. The mixtures' optimum water content increased only 2% in relation to the soil without waste, which means that the compaction of the mixtures will require 10-20% more water, depending on CDW quality. Results show that these materials and proportions can be considered for possible application in embankments.
Andromaque, de Jean Racine: duas leituras

Este artigo tem o objetivo de apresentar uma obra-prima do teatro clássico francês: Andromaque (1667), de Jean Racine. Primeiramente, efetuamos sua leitura segundo os princípios da doutrina clássica, que se formou entre 1620 e 1660, na França. Nessa perspectiva, Andrômaca, rainha troiana vencida e cativa, é a personagem triunfante, uma forte personalidade feminina fora do alcance do leitor/espectador: quem é de fato Andrômaca, enquanto Pirro não está morto? Em seguida, destacamos uma das análises realizadas pela crítica literária do século XX, a qual utilizou instrumentos interpretativos vários. A leitura que fez Roland Barthes (1963) em Sur Racine subverte a interpretação anterior que se fazia à luz da doutrina clássica, apresentando-nos Pirro como o grande herói trágico, e a personagem mais emancipada do teatro raciniano.
Antes de Otranto: apontamentos para uma pré-história do gótico na literatura

Departing from Ariovaldo Vidal’s statement, in his foreword to the Brazilian translation of The Castle of Otranto, that the Gothic sources were spread upon literary and social history waiting for someone (Horace Walpole) to collect them in order to create a new literary genre, and connecting imagination to such statement, my purpose in this paper is to make some notes on what would possibly be these sources referred by Vidal. By the means of thinking on the Darkness as a semi-concept, a perspective largely inspired in Fred Botting’s Gothic (2014), I intend to look for the origins of Gothic fiction in texts by Homer, Virgil, Dante, and Milton.
Antropofagia, dessacralização e devoração em Rilke Shake, de Angélica Freitas

This article investigates the presence of anthropophagy on Rilke shake, analyzing the opening poem “perfect teeth, listen to me,” by the concept of devouring. It discusses how the “Poesia Pau-Brasil” by Oswald de Andrade would be the milestone of a conception of poetry desacralized in Brazil in the twentieth century, retaken by marginal generation and kept alive by Angélica Freitas, with a increasingly accelerated consumption into society as a background.

Managers, Sexual Education, FormationThe daily life of learners of foreign languages, linguists and translators is permeated by the use of different computer-based technologies. Because of this, there is a constant quest to promote/increase the contact of that audience with computational tools that are useful in the initial training and in the improvement of already working professionals. In this work we report about researches related to the role of translation on the field of learning and teaching foreign languages and about software for creating and managing translation memories, as well as on capacitation for its use. Starting from this research it is our purpose to broaden the work and the engagement of students and teachers of this college of Language Studies for the community.

The Automatic Mapping of Princeton WordNet Lexical-Conceptual Relations onto the Brazilian Portuguese WordNet Database

Princeton WordNet (WN.Pr) lexical database has motivated efficient compilations of bulky relational lexicons since its inception in the 1980's. The EuroWordNet project, the first multilingual initiative built upon WN.Pr, opened up ways of building individual wordnets, and interrelating them by means of the so-called Inter-Lingual-Index, an unstructured list of the WN.Pr synsets. Other important initiative, relying on a slightly different method of building multilingual wordnets, is the MultiWordNet project, where the key strategy is building language specific wordnets keeping as much as possible of the semantic relations available in the WN.Pr. This paper, in particular, stresses that the additional advantage of using WN.Pr lexical database as a resource for building wordnets for other languages is to explore possibilities of implementing an automatic procedure to map the WN.Pr conceptual relations as hyponymy, co-hyponymy, troponymy, meronymy, cause, and entailment onto the lexical database of the wordnet under construction, a viable possibility, for those are language-independent relations that hold between lexicalized concepts, not between lexical units. Accordingly, combining methods from both initiatives, this paper presents the ongoing implementation of the WN.Br lexical database and the aforementioned automation procedure illustrated with a sample of the automatic encoding of the hyponymy and co-hyponymy relations.

The aim of this article is to present the theoretic-methodological bases for the construction of a bilingual terminological dictionary of economics which serves either Portuguese and Spanish speakers. Th e contrasted languages are the Brazilian Portuguese variety and the peninsular and Argentinean varieties. The purpose of this text is based on the principles of the Communicative Theory of Terminology - CTT (Cabré, 1999).
