Abstract
Abstract (english)
The tumors of the head and neck account for 14,000 new cases of cancer in the Brazil. The treatment for this type of disease is surgery followed by radiotherapy and chemotherapy. During the radiotherapy with external beams, the patient is subjected to radiation in a target volume that is large part of the oral cavity, reaching the salivary glands and the entire dental arch, causing several side effects. The work used the MCNPX to calculate the dose of radiation absorbed by different regions of the tooth and for materials used in dental restorations, when they are subjected to different radiation beams simulating patients who are undergoing treatment in the radiotherapy of head and neck.
Abstract (portuguese)
Os tumores da região da cabeça e pescoço correspondem a 14.000 casos novos de câncer no Brasil [1, 2]. O tratamento para este tipo de doença é a cirurgia seguida de radioterapia e quimioterapia [3, 4]. Durante a realização da radioterapia com feixes externos, o paciente é submetido à radiação em um volume alvo que corresponde à grande parte da cavidade bucal, atingindo as glândulas salivares e toda a arcada dentária, causando vários efeitos secundários [5, 6, 7, 8, 9]. O trabalho utilizou o MCNPX para cálculo de dose de radiação absorvida, pelas diferentes regiões do dente e para materiais utilizados em restaurações dentárias, quando estes são submetidos a diferentes feixes de radiação; simulando pacientes que estão em tratamento radioterápico na região da cabeça e pescoço.
