Abstract
Cryptosporidiosis is being studied as an important waterborne zoonosis with wide global distribution. The infrastructure of basic sanitation services is deficient in several countries, and ingestion of Cryptosporidium spp. oocysts may lead to huge outbreaks. Our objectives are to reinforce the need for implementing more accessible methods for the detection and quantification of oocysts and identification of Cryptosporidium spp. species in water samples, as well as recommending development of researches regarding more affordable methods for inactivation of oocysts in treatment of water contaminated by such a pathogen.
