A paisagem do Rio Tietê no Oeste Paulista

Esta dissertação tem como tema central o Rio Tietê, buscando compreendê-lo como paisagem em sua complexidade histórica, social, cultural e ambiental, a partir de uma leitura que integra diferentes tempos e modos de relação com o território. Parte-se da constatação de que o Tietê, outrora eixo de vida, circulação e identidade, foi transformado por sucessivas ações humanas que alteraram profundamente sua morfologia, seu papel territorial e seus sentidos simbólicos. O objetivo do estudo é investigar como o Tietê se constitui como paisagem material e simbólica, articulando três dimensões analíticas: o rio como representação social e cultural; o rio como expressão do progresso, compreendido enquanto território habitado e fabricado pelas sociedades; e, por fim, o rio como paisagem e meio ambiente material e vivo. Busca-se, assim, compreender as múltiplas camadas que conformam o Tietê, revelando tensões e continuidades entre natureza, cultura e técnica, e destacando os momentos de transformação que marcaram sua trajetória e suas implicações contemporâneas, em um movimento que articula passado, presente e futuro. O trabalho fundamenta-se na perspectiva da paisagem, tendo como principal referencial teórico a obra de Jean-Marc Besse (2014), especialmente o ensaio “As cinco portas da paisagem”, que orienta uma leitura integrada e interdisciplinar da paisagem. Do ponto de vista metodológico, a pesquisa combina análise iconográfica, documental e bibliográfica de caráter histórico com levantamentos de dados georreferenciados e percursos de observação ao longo do curso médio do Tietê, possibilitando a construção de uma leitura multiescalar e interpretativa da paisagem fluvial. Os resultados indicam que, ao articular as diversas camadas temporais e simbólicas do Tietê, é possível identificar potenciais de reconexão e revalorização da paisagem frente às dinâmicas contemporâneas de degradação e fragmentação. Essa abordagem contribui para pensar prospecções futuras no campo do planejamento e do projeto da paisagem, orientadas por uma visão mais integrada e sensível às interações entre sociedade e meio ambiente.

This dissertation focuses on the Tietê River, seeking to understand it as a landscape in its historical, social, cultural, and environmental complexity, based on a reading that integrates different periods and modes of relating to the territory. It begins with the observation that the Tietê, once an axis of life, circulation, and identity, has been transformed by successive human actions that profoundly altered its morphology, territorial role, and symbolic meanings. The objective of the study is to investigate how the Tietê River is constituted as a material and symbolic landscape, articulating three analytical dimensions: the river as a social and cultural representation; the river as an expression of progress, understood as a territory inhabited and manufactured by societies; and, finally, the river as a landscape and a material and living environment. Thus, the aim is to understand the multiple layers that shape the Tietê River, revealing tensions and continuities between nature, culture, and technology, and highlighting the moments of transformation that marked its trajectory and their contemporary implications, in a movement that connects past, present, and future. The work is grounded in the landscape perspective, using as its primary theoretical framework the work of Jean-Marc Besse (2014), particularly the essay "The Five Doors of the Landscape," which guides an integrated and interdisciplinary reading of the landscape. Methodologically, the research combines iconographic, documentary, and bibliographic analysis of a historical nature with georeferenced data collection and observation trails along the middle reaches of the Tietê River, enabling the construction of a multi-scale and interpretive reading of the riverscape. The results indicate that, by articulating the various temporal and symbolic layers of the Tietê River, it is possible to identify potential for reconnection and revaluation of the landscape in the face of contemporary dynamics of degradation and fragmentation. This approach contributes to future explorations in the field of landscape planning and design, guided by a more integrated vision that is sensitive to the interactions between society and the environment.
