Through the reconstruction of the broken memory wires, this study searches to enlarge the understanding of the invisible motivation that goes beyond the emigration of the so called dekassegui workers to Japan. By the use of oral history, not only the speech of active workers, but also the perceptions and representations of two generations (issei and nissei) of elderly women from Japanese Brazilian families, apart from the account of a single elderly man who was interviewed, were incorporated to the sociological analysis. The analyses of the oral accounts, ordered according to the season, allowed the historical conditions and the idealized image, that structure the departure of nikkei workers to their ancestors' country. Behind the myth of return hides a rootles reality of intense exploration. In this context, memory and identify work together dialectically to formulate a new project that allows these people to take root, as an alternative to the way proposed by the neoliberal order.
