The present study sought to understand the representation of the feminine conferred by the Independent Presbyterian Church through the analysis of the Alvorada Magazine, a production of this denomination that was created in the late 60's and which initially had the purpose of speaking to the independent Presbyterian woman. With such intent we carry out the reading of 71.0% of the material produced, totaling 185 magazines analyzed. Our desire was to analyze all the magazines, but we could not access all copies. Besides the analysis of the articles that comprise the magazine, we also studied the covers, and related images, as well as advertisements, and other information that were linked to the magazine. Reading allowed us to separate and analyze with greater care the texts that were specifically aimed at the woman, and, from that, we identified which were the representations of the feminine diffused there. For the analysis of the data obtained, we used Chartier’s notion of representation and the concepts of habitus and field of Bourdieu. Besides a wide range of thinkers who helped us to understand Protestantism and its organization in Brazil, and we also endorse ourselves in several other authors to understand the development of the press in the country, including the women's press. We can see that the magazine presents two phases namely: one in which it speaks specifically to the woman and that lasts until the middle of the 80's. And another one in which it speaks to the family with special emphasis to the woman's role in that process, and that begins in the middle of the 90’s. In both of them, the woman portrayed by the magazine and by analogy the woman who is also represented in the Independent Presbyterian Church is one who is prepared for heterosexual marriage, to have children, to take care of daily life affairs necessary for the material reproduction of the family. Female work is pointed out as something the woman must accept if financial conditions show its need whereas studying is only stimulated in productions from the 1990s onwards. In the first phase female sexuality is not addressed, it is not even mentioned and it emerges in the productions after the 90s as a sexuality that must be healthy and necessary for the sexual satisfaction of the couple, besides being the means used to guarantee the reproduction of the species. Linked to the notion of sexuality, we also see that homoaffectivity issues are not addressed in the first phase of the journal although it consolidates the discussion of some texts of the second phase and it is considered as a deviation from sexuality originally thought by God. The philosophical basis of the magazine also changes between the phases, since in the first phase, we have the predominance to the recurrence to the biblical values and in the second phase, we see an attempt to resort to contemporary thinkers as long as they serve a religious interpretation. In a way we see that the magazine tries to modernize itself, seeking to become socially accepted, but without losing the initial religious background.
