Resumo

With the growing demand for electricity, there was the need to develop an efficient system load demand management for power grids. For implementation of a load demand management system was proposed smart grid architecture. The smart grid is a highly power system complex system involving a large number of information and communication technology devices integrated with the purpose of fault detection and control and integration with power grid technology with energy generation technologies renewable. Already the installation of smart meters in residential consumers helps themselves to use the electric power more conscious way and cost saving in load periods. Therefore, this paper proposes an evaluation of the DNP3 performance through a network IEEE 802.11g wireless ad hoc, encapsulated in TCP/IP using the Network Simulator Version 2.35 (NS-2). The aim is to investigate the feasibility of using DNP3 through an ad hoc network, in residences with smart meters for electric power saving purposes. With the simulation results, you can tell if a 802.11g wireless ad hoc network with DNP3 is a communication protocol and viable for low cost smart grid applications for monitoring and tracking of electric power consumption in real time.
