Resumo

Reflects on how the future professional librarian should seek training that prepares him for social reality and for the construction of efficient action plans, supporting his development in the context of the contribution of the information management and the knowledge management in the university curricula of the courses of Librarianship. It presents as proposal the adoption of the information management and the knowledge management in the librarianship curricula, as allied to the essential knowledge for the formation of professionals aware of their own action in the organizational scope. It aims to discuss the formation of the professional librarian focused on information management and knowledge management for social benefit. The research has as universe the Brazilian federal and state public universities that offer the course of Librarianship. It is characterized as a quantitative and qualitative research and a study of the documentary type carried out in the Web environment. It discovers the Brazilian public universities that offer the course of Librarianship, as well as the disciplines that approach contents of information management, knowledge management and management of information and knowledge. It discovers disciplines with other nomenclatures that approach contents directed to the information management and knowledge management. The research shows that most Librarianship courses at Brazilian public universities are engaged in the development of a professional librarian with information and knowledge manager profile.
