With the objective to aggregate new technical data to the study of deposits of dimensional stones near the town of Barra de São Francisco - ES, geological and technological background of three major rock types used as dimension stone, known commercially by Giallo São Francisco Real, Branco Marfim e Branco Dallas is emphasized. The rock types characterized as syenogranites peraluminous S Type of Neoproterozoic age, belonging to Carlos Chagas Suite are composed of quartz, microcline, oligoclase, biotite and muscovite. Also may occur sillimanite, garnet, accessory minerals, such as apatite, titanite, zircon and opaque minerals. The technological characterization involves petrography (composition, structure and texture), chemical (major elements), physical and mechanical behavior (water absorption, resistance to abrasion, impact of hard body and to compression and traction), resistance to chemical attack and alterability (based on the ABNT NBR 15845:2010 and its annexes, NBR 12042 and ASTM D2845) in order to determine the physico-mechanical and chemical properties as well as orienting its application as a final product. The obtained results compared between themselves and correlated to the standards suggested by normalizing institutions justify its exploration and demand by the final consuming market.
