Resumo
Esta tese de Doutorado investiga as complexas relações entre os discursos histórico e literário; as diferentes concepções do gênero “Romance Histórico”; e a existência de produções literárias mais recentes que penetram as fronteiras da Literatura com a História, sejam as que melhor se identificam com as denominações clássicas de Lukács, ou as que ganham outras configurações e se constituem como novas variantes do gênero. Das relações discursivas da literatura com a história, a fonte principal de reflexão são os estudos de Ricoeur em Tempo e Narrativa (2010), e de Antonio Candido em Literatura e Sociedade (2006). Quanto às concepções de romance histórico, o percurso de investigação se inicia com Lukács (2011), passa por Frederic Jameson (2007), Linda Hutcheon (1991) e se encerra com algumas discussões atuais que trazem para o centro do debate as recorrências e transformações por que passou o romance histórico. Esses pensadores norteiam as análises dos romances, sejam as mais sucintas que aparecem no final do segundo capítulo, ou o estudo mais detalhado sobre A Dama da Morte (1968) de Alice Vaz de Mello. Os objetivos dessa investigação são discutir a relação entre história e literatura, destacando suas diferenças, semelhanças, entrecruzamentos e aporias a partir dos apontamentos feitos por Ricoeur; examinar a validade da teoria lukacsiana sobre o romance histórico; investigar sobre novas possíveis variantes do gênero; e verificar no romance periférico A Dama da Morte os vestígios da história, testando a validade de um possível gênero.
This Dissertation approaches the complex relationship between historical and literary discourses; the different notions of the genre ‘Historical Novel’; and the existence of more recent literary productions that penetrate the borders between Literature and History. These recent literary productions focus on those that better identify with the classical denomination as specified by Lukács compared with those that present other perspectives and are thus new versions of the genre. Main sources of reflection upon the discursive relations between literature and history include Time and Narrative (2010) by Paul Ricoeur, and Literatura e Sociedade (1965) [Literature and Society], by Antonio Candido. As far as the notions of historical novel are concerned, this research starts by focusing on Lukács (2011), and proceeds through Fredric Jameson (2007) and Linda Hutcheon (1991), finishing with current discussions that bring the recurrences and transformations of the historical novel over time to the center of the debate. Texts by these theorists are used to discuss the novels that appear at the end of the second chapter, or in the analysis of the book A Dama da Morte (1968) [The Lady of Death], by Alice Vaz de Mello. The objectives of this investigation are to discuss the relationship between literature and history, highlighting their differences, similarities, cross-links and aphorias related to observations made by Ricoeur; examine the validity of the theory proposed by Lukács about the historical novel; address new possibilities to this genre; and verify the traces of history in the peripheral novel A Dama da Morte in order to test the validity of a new possible genre.
