Resumo
O ser humano é refém da implacabilidade do tempo, não sendo permitida a chance de escapar do cativeiro fenomenológico imposto a ele. Entretanto, algumas pessoas são capazes de fugir de seu destino e alcançam a eternidade, terreno da imortalidade. A presente tese, assim, tem como objetivo analisar as obras Across the River and Into the Trees, de Ernest Hemingway, e Du côté de chez Swann, de Marcel Proust, sob a perspectiva da experiência humana e da subjetividade diante da ação do tempo, calcada na Filosofia Existencial. O caminho trilhado parte da análise da necessidade humana da busca da unidade, trabalhada pelo filósofo Miguel de Unamuno, para que assim, os escritores possam alcançar a graça da eternidade. Essa missão somente será possível no plano da criação do universo romanesco, como abordado por Camus, para, então, o escritor, diante de sua angústia existencial, possa encontrar sua unidade. Uma das formas de atingir a eternidade é por meio do acesso à Ideia, categoria suscitada por Schopenhauer, e esta via é trilhada pelo trabalho do gênio, no caso, ambos Hemingway e Proust. Por fim, serão abordadas, via Santo Agostinho e Kierkegaard, as noções de eternidade e tempo, e como, depois de traçado esse percurso na busca de si, os autores em questão e suas obras rompem com a barreira temporal e se lançam na imortalidade.
Human beings are held hostages of the voracity of time, and they are not allowed them to flee from the phenomenological prison they are trapped into. However, certain people are capable of running away from their destiny and reach eternity, which is the place of immortality. Therefore, the present dissertation aims at analyzing Across the River and Into the Trees, by Ernest Hemingway, and Du côté de chez Swann, by Marcel Proust, under the perspective of human experience and subjectivity in face of the action of time, based on the ideas of Existential Philosophy. The analysis starts from the human need to search for its unity, as dictated by the philosopher Miguel de Unamuno, so that, in this sense, the writers could reach the eternity gift. This mission can only be accomplished in the creation of a novel universe, as said by Camus, so that, it’s possible to the writer, facing his existential agony, to find his unity. One of the ways to reach eternity is through the access to the Idea, Schopenhauer’s concept, and this path can only be trailed by the genius, in this case, both Hemingway and Proust. Lastly, the notions of eternity and time, given by Santo Agostinho and Kierkegaard, will be scrutinized, in order to investigate how both authors and their works break the time barrier and launch themselves into immortality.
