Resumo
Este estudo tem como objetivo analisar o complexo cafeeiro através da íntima relação da necessidade do crédito imprescindível para a manutenção da cultura cafeeira no âmbito regional; observaremos as nuances e as oscilações desse complexo no município de Descalvado, no período de 1873 a 1915. A historiografia relativa a esse conjunto, em algumas das localidades estudadas, distinguiu aspectos norteadores da análise, principalmente na acumulação de capital que ultrapassou a cultura do café e atingiu o setor industrial, deixando progressivamente à margem as relações do financiamento e do crédito aos cafezais. Desta forma, passamos a interpretar e verificar o mérito da lavoura de café e as relações de crédito predominantes em Descalvado, além dos reflexos na escala social dessas atividades. A pesquisa histórica foi sendo desenvolvida no decurso de sub-períodos, analisando os momentos de crise e expansão da cafeicultura, elementos tão rotineiros na produção de café como produto nuclear. Para desenvolver a pesquisa, recorremos aos métodos e aos debates recentes, presentes em pesquisas na área de história econômica que lidam com fontes, tais como: os Livros Cartoriais, em especial as escrituras de dívidas hipotecárias e de penhores agrícolas. Esse procedimento confere panorama mais amplo e adequado para a análise das questões econômicas do município, observando seu papel no desenvolvimento da dinâmica de acumulação da riqueza em Descalvado e seus impactos na esfera social
This study aims to analyze the coffee complex through the close relationship between the need for credit, which is essential to the maintenance of the coffee plantation, at regional level, in which we will observe the nuances and variations of this complex in the town of Descalvado, comprising the period from 1873 to 1915. The historiography on this set, in some of the towns that we studied, has distinguished some aspects that guided the analysis, mainly the accumulation of money that exceeded the cultivation of coffee and hit the industrial sector, leaving financing and credit for coffee plantations progressively aside. In this way, we submit to construe and verify the merits of the coffee farming and the credit relations prevalent in Descalvado and also the reflections, at social scale, of these activities. Historical researches have been developed during sub-periods, analyzing the moments of crisis and expansion of coffee, that are routine elements in the production of coffee as the core product. To develop the research, we will resort to methods and recent debates present at investigations in the area of economic history dealing with sources such as: Notarial Books, in particular with the writings of mortgages and deeds of agricultural liens. This procedure gives us a wider and more appropriate framework for the analysis of economic issues in the town, noting its role in the development of the dynamics of wealth accumulation and its impacts in the social sphere in Descalvado
