Resumo
The composites have been widely used over the last years, providing highly aesthetic restorations. The silorane composite is a new technology that replaces the conventionally used methacrylate resin matrix within conventional dental composite, thereby providing lower polymerization shrinkage, excellent marginal integrity, up to 9 minutes operatory light stability and low water sorption that substantially decreased exogenic staining. These qualities of the composite alleviate clinical problems such as marginal staining, microleakage, secondary caries, enamel micro-cracks and post-operative sensitivity. Only the specific self-etching adhesive must be applied to bond the silorane composite to the tooth enamel and dentin. The technique of silorane composite is different from that used in those methacrylate composites, which becomes important to prevent problems during its use. This paper aims to describe properties, application technique of new siloranebased composites and the difference between methacrylate-and silorane-based composites. After reading this paper, the reader will be able to apply such technique in their daily practice with maximum performance of these restorative materials. © 2011 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
