Anti rat kidney serum and anti rat glomerular basement membrane sera were obtained from rabbits and injected (0.8 ml/100 g body weight) into 6 groups of 6 rats. Indirect immunofluorescence tests (Almeida & Franco) provided titers of serum anti glomerular basement membrane antibodies (1:320, 1:240, 1:160, 1:180, 1:160, 1:30). Negative reactions were obtained in a control group of 6 rats injected with normal rabbit serum. Proteinuria (determined in 24 hr) in surviving animals correlated with titers of anti glomerular basement membrane antibodies in different injected sera. It is concluded that indirect immunofluorescent tests with isolated glomerular basement membrane detect and quantify nephrotoxic antibodies in serum. (36 references).en
