Será demonstrado que tal formulação está voltada contra o ativismo dos movimentos estudantis europeus dos anos 60, contra a noção de engajamento e as diretrizes gerais da política cultural comunista, além de se opor à teoria do realismo crítico formulada por Lukács. A autonomia da teoria, como se verá, está ligada à defesa da autonomia estética e as relações existentes entre sujeito-objeto na atividade cognitiva.This paper tries to analyse Adomo's conception about the relation between theory and praxis in order to describe the meaning of the autonomy of the theory and of the author. The intention is to show that this theory is against the ativism of the European student movements of the 60's, against the idea of engagement and the general directives of the comunist cultural politics, besides being contrary to the theory of critical realism of Lukács.
