Como outros grupos elitistas do período, a SCI buscou uma estratégia para introduzir a modernidade no Brasil, com o diferencial de relaciona-la com a imigração europeia destinada a colonização, desenvolvida, por sua vez, através da ocupação de pequenas propriedades rurais. Entendiam esses trabalhadores europeus como agentes das transformações pretendidas, devendo ser atraídos e convencidos de fixar residência no Império.This research intends to develop an analysis of the main publication of “Sociedade Central de Immigração (SCI)” with the intention of relate the instituicion to the debates about progress and the crisis on agriculture at the end of the XIX century. Like other elitist groups, the SCI sought strategies to introduce the modernity in Brazil but they wants to do that through the European imigration intended to colonization, develop in turn through the ocupation of small rural properties.
