Thus, the work is developed especially from the papers already produced about the subject. From this point of view, it was possible to observe a tendency towards the authors in classifying epenthesis not only as a lexical but also as a post lexical rule. This paper suggests otherwise that epenthesis in BP is a phonological process which eminently operates on the lexical domain.Este artigo tem como objetivo fazer uma análise teórica da epêntese vocálica no português brasileiro (PB), à luz da teoria da fonologia lexical. Dessa forma, o trabalho desenvolve-se, sobretudo, a partir da busca de evidências na bibliografia já produzida sobre esse assunto. Com base nesse ponto de vista, pode-se observar uma tendência entre os estudiosos em classificar a epêntese como uma regra tanto lexical como pós-lexical.
