Through the review of several scientific texts and market analysis, this paper seeks to give an overview of this process and the technologies involved in this transition, as well as to analyze Brazil's position in this worldwide transformation. With an industrial park devoted exclusively to lead acid battery production and, due to the consolidated agricultural sector, with most recent research investments focused on biofuels production, Brazil faces difficulties to keep up with automobile electrification.Devido tendência mundial pela busca de matrizes energéticas mais sustentáveis, a indústria automobilística passa pelo processo de conversão do motor a combustão interna, alimentado por combustíveis fósseis, ao motor elétrico, alimentado por baterias de íon lítio. Através da revisão de diversos textos científicos e análises de mercado, esse trabalho busca dar um panorama desse processo e das tecnologias em envolvidas nessa transição, como também analisar o posicionamento do Brasil nessa transformação mundial.
