This research was aimed at accomplishing a nutritional and energetic evaluation of the urban waste compost use on Eucalyptus grandis, 9 years old, in relation to conventional chemical fertilization. The experimental delineating was performed in small sections subdivided, into two treatments, with and without compost, being allocated randomly three sections by treatment, with an area of 100mø. The threes were subdivided into 4 diameter classes and, from the distribution by the diameter, were selected, randomly, 8 trees in each section, two by the diameter class, to be evaluate the production of dry material and the nutrients storage, 48 trees in total. In the energetic evaluation, was qualified every inputs and outputs energy to calculate the energetic efficiency in each treatment. The compost addition influenced significantly, on the increase in the content of N, P in the trunk and K in the bark, as well as, B and Zn in the total biomass of the eucalyptus. The treatment with the compost consumed 49,47% more energy, than the treatment without compost. This was due to the compost transportation, the operation of spreading the compost, and to the increased fuel consuming in the activities of harvest, as a result of the greater demand of agricultural machinery. These factors intensified the indirect energy consumption in 1,51% and the direct energy in 47,96%, in the treatment of the compost, decreasing the energy efficiency in this treatment, in spite of the expansion of the commercial timber, in 31,79%.
