Resumo
Esta pesquisa examinou o discurso sobre os mulatos – o resultado do intercurso sexual entre o europeu e o negro africano. A investigação teve dois propósitos centrais: primeiro, demonstrar que tal discurso – chamado aqui de discurso desabonador – seguiu uma regularidade durante os séculos XVII e XVIII; segundo, entender que condições de possibilidades fundamentaram esse matiz desabonador. Para tanto, foram analisados um conjunto de escritos sobre o Brasil colonial, produzidos majoritariamente durante os séculos XVII e XVIII ou, mais especificamente, entre os anos de 1633 e 1824. O elemento comum e imprescindível desses escritos é possuírem referências diretas aos mulatos. A especificidade desse discurso, como se procurou demonstrar, é que ele resulta de três pressupostos: a forma como o português distribuía socialmente as pessoas pelas sortes de gente no Brasil colonial, a escravidão como geradora de certas situações sociais controversas e, por último, as peculiaridades dos próprios mulatos
This research examined the speech about the mulattos, the result of the sexual intercourse between the European and the African negro. The research had two central proposals: first, to show that such a speech – called here discrediting speech – followed a regularity during the centuries XVII and XVIII; second, to understand that conditions of possibilities justified that discrediting gradation. On account of that, some texts about colonial Brazil were analyzed, which were produced mainly during the centuries XVII and XVIII or, more specifically, between the years 1633 and 1824. The common and essential element of these texts is to have direct references to the mulattos. The specification of this speech , as it tried to show, is that it results from three presuppositions: the way in which the Portuguese distributed the people socially through the sorts of people in colonial Brazil, the slavery as cause of certain controversial social situations and, finally, the peculiarities from the own mulattos
