Resumo
O Lean Seis Sigma é uma metodologia de melhoria contínua utilizada para tornar os processos operacionais mais eficientes por meio da eliminação de desperdícios e redução da variabilidade. Devido aos resultados obtidos pela indústria manufatureira, esta metodologia tem sido empregada recentemente pelas instituições que prestam serviços em saúde para aumentar a qualidade dos serviços e reduzir custos. Apesar de haver na literatura científica considerável quantidade de publicações sobre o Lean Seis Sigma, não se observam estudos que orientam a implantação e gestão desta metodologia para o setor de saúde. O objetivo principal desta tese é propor diretrizes para a implantação e gestão da metodologia Lean Seis Sigma em instituições de saúde. Para desenvolver este estudo, foi realizada a revisão sistemática da literatura científica para identificar os princípios Lean Seis Sigma. Com base nos princípios identificados, foi verificada sua operacionalização em seis instituições de saúde para identificar as boas práticas e dificuldades no desenvolvimento destes princípios. Como resultado deste estudo são propostas diretrizes para implantar e gerir os princípios do Lean Seis Sigma em instituições de saúde. Uma característica peculiar das diretrizes é que, com base em suas demandas e prioridades, as instituições de saúde têm autonomia para decidir sobre as estratégias operacionais de implantação e gestão. A principal contribuição acadêmica deste estudo é o preenchimento da lacuna científica relacionada ao desenvolvimento de diretrizes para implantação do Lean Seis Sigma em setores particulares, como o setor de saúde. Já a principal contribuição aplicada deste estudo é o estabelecimento de orientações capazes de auxiliar gestores e consultores na implantação e gestão da metodologia Lean Seis Sigma em instituições de saúde.
Lean Six Sigma is a continuous improvement methodology used to make operational processes more efficient by eliminating waste and reducing variability. Due to the results obtained by the manufacturing industry, this methodology has been used recently by healthcare institutions to increase the quality of services and reduce costs. Although there is a considerable amount of literature on Lean Six Sigma in the scientific literature, there are no studies that guide the implementation and management of this methodology for the healthcare sector. Therefore, the main objective of this thesis is to propose guidelines for the implementation and management of the Lean Six Sigma methodology in healthcare institutions. To develop this study, a systematic review of the scientific literature was conducted to identify the principles of Lean Six Sigma. Based on the principles identified, its operationalization was verified in six healthcare institutions to identify good practices and difficulties in the development of these principles. As a result of this study, guidelines are proposed to implement and manage the principles of Lean Six Sigma in healthcare institutions. A peculiar feature of the guidelines is that they are self-applicable, because, based on their demands and priorities, healthcare institutions have autonomy to decide on operational strategies for implementation and management. The main academic contribution of this study is the filling of the scientific gap related to the development of guidelines for the implementation of Lean Six Sigma in specific sectors, such as the healthcare sector. The main contribution of this study is the establishment of a practical guide to assist managers and consultants in the implementation and management of the Lean Six Sigma methodology in healthcare institutions.
