Resumo

This article analyzes the nocturnal thermal profile of Rancharia, a small municipality located in the western state of São Paulo. The Urban Climate System was the theoretical and methodological basis to guide the research, with an emphasis on the thermodynamic subsystem. Among other products, this subsystem seeks to diagnose urban heat islands. The acquisition of temperature records was carried out by performing mobile transects (itinerant measures) and fixed points collected simultaneously in five winter episodes at 9 pm. Data analysis was forwarded to the preparation of charts with isotherms and illustrated longitudinal profiles, containing the predominant features in the paths, allowing an integrated analysis of the air temperature distribution in free flow paths. Atmospheric heat islands of moderate magnitude were diagnosed with intensity between 3°C and 3.8°C in atmospheric stability conditions provided by clear skies and light winds. Heat islands were detected in densely built urban features, while cool islands were located in areas of lower building density, in a transition from the urban-rural environment and the surrounding rural environment. This research demonstrated that, despite being a small municipality, Rancharia presents specificities from the standpoint of the distribution of temperatures in the intra-urban area compared to the neighboring rural area, which should be considered in the management and planning of the urban space.
