This research aims to investigate the transmission of US monetary shocks on the Brazilian economy through a vector error correction model (VECM) during the floating exchange rate regime (2000-2017), answering whether the country is constrained by a trilemma as in Mundell (1963) and Fleming (1962) or by a dilemma as suggested by Rey (2013, 2016), a result that has significant implications for the conduct of domestic monetary policy.
