Resumo

Taking into account the large number of existing alloys in national and international markets as well as the variety of elements of addition, in this work different experimental compositions of Ni-Cr-X (X = Ta, Mo, W, Nb, and Ti) alloys were prepared to evaluate the effect of the addition of third element on the corrosion resistance of these alloys in fluoride medium. According to the results obtained it was concluded that the electrochemical responses divide the five compositions in two sets, with respect to corrosion behavior, being the higher corrosion resistance those where X = Ta, W or Mo, in particular the first one. On the other hand, localized corrosion was observed for X = Nb or Ti. In this aspect, the Ni-Cr-Ta alloy may be the most suitable for use in dental prostheses.
