Brazil's immigrant advertisements on nineteenth century: the case of the Sociedade Central de Imigracao (Central Immigration Society)

Resumo
This article intends to reflect about two problems linked to the history of immigration in Brazil. The first one is identify and understand the concept of advertising in that context, especially the one that was used to attracting immigrants for the work in the Emperor. And the second is to analyze the thinking of the Sociedade Central de Immigracao (SCI). Their texts was published at the report A Immigracao, official periodic of the institution, and in their immigrant guide broadcast in Europe. Documents in which the concept appears as a discourse, that sometimes aimed internal groups and sometimes struggling foreigners, for convince respectively about the transformations that was necessary to the modernization and that the Emperor would be a good destination for those who intended emigrate.
