The Ag2CrO4 (ACr) semiconductor is widely known for its photoluminescent and photocatalytic properties, while the α-Ag2WO4 (AW) semiconductor is known for its photoluminescent properties and excellent antimicrobial potential. Based on the knowledge of the properties of these two materials this study reported on the preparation of ACr decorated with AW synthetized by the microwave assisted hydrothermal method, and investigated the photoluminescent (PL), photocatalytic and antimicrobial potential of this new material. Several techniques were used to evaluate the influence of the AW on the ACr properties. The XRD results show sharp and welldefined diffraction peaks being indexed to the orthorhombic phase for all samples. In the Raman spectroscopy, it was observed that the formation of the decorated ones causes the formation of short-range defects in the samples of ACr: AW. SEM images showed that the AW particles grow on the surface of the ACr, completely covering the ACr particles to form the samples decorated with ACr: AW. The FL spectra showed that for a higher percentage of AW, the emissions in the green and red region become more pronounced, with a decrease in the density of defects in the blue region. Our studies demonstrated that both the ACr sample and the decorated ACr: AW samples showed photocatalytic activity for degradation of Rhodamine B and antimicrobial activity against planktonic cells of gram-positive bacteria MRSA and MSSA.
