The application of light has been one of the most recent factors to be incorporated into the cultivation of lettuce. Among the management components, the photon intensity stands out, with the possibility of having its effect optimized by mulching. The response of lettuce to supplementation of low-intensity light applied at night associated with the natural photoperiod is not known. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the impact of the intensity of red light applied at night and the coverage of hydroponic cultivation channels with reflective material, in biometric and productive aspects of lettuce. Eight treatments resulting from the combination of mulching (presence and absence) and red light intensities, applied via LED (0, 0.8, 1.6 and 2.4 µmol m-2 s-1) were evaluated. The experiment was carried out in hydroponic cultivation, from June to August 2020, in a randomized block design, split-plot, with four replicates. Some nutrients were influenced by the factors alone or by their interaction. There was no interaction of factors and no effect of mulching on the biometric and productive characteristics of lettuce. The increase in photoperiod through the application of red light at night promoted an increase in the number of leaves, leaf area, fresh and dry mass of the shoot and productivity of lettuce; and the greater the intensity of red light, the greater the values obtained. Therefore, red light, even at low intensity, provided in an additional period to solar radiation, is able to increase the growth of lettuce and, consequently, the productivity of cultivation.
