Digital technology is present in private life, work and social interactions. Furthermore, in the literature, we find evidence that the knowledge arising from digital technologies enriches the world's cultural diversity. In Mathematics Education, the use of digital videos has been investigated as a media resource that can pedagogically contribute to the teaching and learning process of Mathematics. Authors understand that we are experiencing the fourth phase, with regard to the use of digital technologies in Mathematics Education. In this phase, the fast internet, portable technologies and video production are the technological protagonists. The objective of this research presented here was to investigate aspects of the public image of Mathematics in videos from the Festival of Digital Videos and Mathematics Education. The question that guided this study was: “Which Mathematics images are constructed in videos from the Festival of Digital Videos and Mathematics Education?”. Specifically, this dissertation consists of an investigation related to the Public Image of Mathematics (IPM), using videos produced by undergraduates of the same class, at Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP), which were submitted to the IV Festival of Digital Videos and Mathematics Education. The Festival currently has four categories and the videos that were analyzed belong to the Higher Education category. This research is qualitative, uses a case study and the procedures adopted for the analyzes are based on an adaptation of an analytical model composed of the following (non-linear) procedures: observation, description, identification of critical events, transcription , codification, elaboration and episode and composition of the narrative. Four videos were selected and the analyzes contemplate the following aspects: Mathematical content covered in the videos and their contextualization, multimodality and the public image of Mathematics. The multimodality present in the videos suggests that undergraduates use oral and written verbal language and mathematical symbolism to explain mathematical ideas in order to produce meanings in mathematical discourse. It was possible to observe that everyday situations, including the Covid-19 pandemic situation, were also present in the videos, both to exemplify and to contextualize the contents, helping in the interpretation and understanding. Music, sound, scenarios, visual effects, gestures, body and facial expressions, language and mathematical symbolism were often used in combination, enhancing the content explanations. Thus, it is possible to see that the videos showed a multimodal character for the communication of Mathematical ideas. The IPM suggested in the videos refers to good feelings, being observed dialogues, respect and humanization of the discipline and, in addition, reflections on how not to teach and treat students in the classroom. Regarding the image of mathematicians, it is possible to observe in the videos an image of respect for students, concern with learning, in addition to observing the subject being taught by women, fleeing from the patterns observed in studies. The analysis of the videos that were submitted to the Festival of Digital Videos and Mathematics Education showed mostly positive and alternative images about Mathematics and mathematicians, supported by multimodality, demonstrating a certain plasticity and a light and creative tone to the themes brought up in the videos bring the viewer a better understanding of the content.
