We observed the osteological development of pink lambari A. lacustris from the moment of hatching to juvenile in order to generate data for the assessment of skeletal deformities and systematic phylogenetic investigation. The larvae were acquired by breeding broodstock obtained from the Jomar fish farm – Buritizal, SP. The larvae were stored at average temperature of 28.1 ± 0.5 ° C, and salinity of 2.0 ‰. Periodically, 20 larvae were collected on days 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 10, 14, 18 and 21 post-hatching dpe. They were analyzed by clearing and double staining (Alcian blue and alizarin red). The newly hatched larvae (2.33 mm total length, CT) did not show calcificated structures, having only chondroid formation. The first structure to initiate mineralization was the parassenoid in larva measuring 2.6 mm CT.With 6.63 mm CT the beginning of the first points of mineralization began in the cephalic region, in the first structures, from the beginning, otoliths, suboperculum and operculum. Afterwards, there was observed ossification of the first six vertebral centers in larvae 8.49 mm CT. With 6.63 mm CT, at 9 dpe, the first mineralization points began to appear in the cephalic region, in the dentario structures, otoliths, suboperculum and operculum. Later, there was ossification of the first six vertebral centers at 8.49 mm CT. When the larvae reached 13.46 mm CT, there was ossification of the premaxilla, maxilla, dentario, articular angle, retro articular and branchial arches, and in the anal and caudal fins. At 15.8 mm CT, there was total ossification of the appendicular and axial regions, but the animals were still in the final process of ossification of the craniofacial region.
