Germinação de sementes de monjoleiro (Senegalia polyphylla (DC.) Britton & Rose) sob estresse hídrico e salino

Senegalia polyphylla (DC.) Britton & Rose é uma espécie arbórea, que pertence à família Leguminosae-Mimosoideae, conhecida popularmente como monjoleiro. É utilizada em programas de reflorestamento misto e para recuperação de áreas degradadas. Este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o comportamento germinativo de sementes de monjoleiro sob diferentes potenciais hídricos e salinos, induzidos por polietilenoglicol (PEG-6000) e NaCl, respectivamente, e determinar os limites de tolerância da espécie ao déficit hídrico e à salinidade durante o processo germinativo. Sementes de monjoleiro foram colocadas para germinar a 25 e 30 °C, nos potenciais hídricos e salinos de 0,0; -0,1; -0,2; -0,3; -0,4; -0,5; -0,6; -0;8; -1,0 MPa, avaliando-se a porcentagem de germinação e de plântulas normais, o índice de velocidade de germinação, comprimento e massa seca de componentes das plântulas, relação raiz/parte aérea do comprimento de plântulas e entropia do processo germinativo. O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento inteiramente ao acaso com cinco repetições de 20 sementes por tratamento. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de variância, testes de médias e de análise de regressão. A germinação sob estresse hídrico foi significativamente reduzida a partir de -0,2 MPa, tanto a 25 ºC quanto a 30 ºC, em relação às sementes do tratamento controle (0,0 MPa), e foi completamente inibida a partir de -0,8 MPa. A formação de plântulas normais foi prejudicada a partir de -0,2 e -0,1 MPa, respectivamente, a 25 e a 30 ºC, sendo completamente inibida a partir - 0,6 MPa. Os efeitos negativos do estresse salino sobre a germinação de sementes foram menores comparativamente ao estresse hídrico, sendo essa completamente inibida a partir de -1,0 MPa, e a formação de plântulas normais foi prejudicada a partir de -0,1 MPa na média das duas temperaturas, com inibição total a partir do -0,4 MPa. Portanto, sementes de Senegalia polyphylla são sensíveis aos estresses hídrico e salino, o que é potencializado em temperaturas mais elevadas.
Senegalia polyphylla (DC.) Britton & Rose is a tree species, belonging to the Leguminosae-Mimosoideae family, popularly known in Brazil as monjoleiro. It is used in mixed reforestation programs and for the recovery of degraded areas. This study aimed to evaluate the germination process of S. polyphylla seeds under different water and saline potentials, induced by polyethylene glycol (PEG-6000) and NaCl, respectively, and to determine the tolerance limits to water deficit and salinity during the germination process. Seeds of S. polyphylla were placed to germinate at 25 and 30 °C, in the water and salt potentials of 0.0; -0.1; -0.2; -0.3; -0.4; -0.5; -0.6; -0.8; -1.0 MPa, evaluating the percentage of germination and normal seedlings, the speed germination index, the length and dry mass of the seedling components, root/shoot ratio of seedling length and the entropy of the germination process. The experiment was carried out in a completely random experimental design with five replications of 20 seeds per treatment. The data were submitted to variance analysis, means testing and regression analysis. Germination under water stress was significantly reduced from -0.2 MPa, for both temperatures, in relation to the control (0.0 MPa), and it was completely inhibited from -0.8 MPa. The formation of normal seedlings was impaired from -0.2 and -0.1 MPa, respectively, at 25 and 30 ºC, and it was completely inhibited from -0.6 MPa. The negative effects of salt stress on seed germination were smaller compared to water stress, an it was completely inhibited from -1.0 MPa, and the formation of normal seedlings was impaired from -0.1 MPa in the average of the two temperatures, and it was completely inhibited from -0.4 MPa. Therefore, seeds of S. polyphylla are sensitive to water and salt stress, which is potentiated at higher temperatures.
