Resumo
As baleias cachalote (Physeter macrocephalus) são odontocetos que vivem em sociedades estruturadas em vários níveis. O nível mais alto dessas sociedades corresponde aos clãs, compostos por até milhares de indivíduos que compartilham características do repertório de codas, que são sequências estereotipadas de clicks produzidas em contextos sociais pelas fêmeas e indivíduos imaturos. O trabalho de Amorim et al (2020) analisou gravações de baleias cachalotes nas regiões norte e sul das águas brasileiras do Oceano Atlântico, identificando a presença de pelo menos dois clãs distintos. O presente trabalho buscou iniciar a complementação dos resultados obtidos pelo autor, analisando e acrescentando à descrição do repertório de codas alguns registros acústicos das regiões norte e nordeste do país.
Sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) are odontocetes that live in multilevel societies. The highest level of these societies corresponds to the clans, composed of up to thousands of individuals that share characteristics of the coda repertoire. Codas are stereotyped sequences of clicks produced in social contexts by females and immature individuals. Amorim et al (2020) analyzed recordings of sperm whales in the northern and southern regions of Brazilian Atlantic Ocean waters, identifying the presence of at least two distinct clans. The present work sought to begin the complementation of the results obtained by the author, analyzing and adding to the description of the coda repertoire some acoustic registers from the north and northeast regions of the country.
