Resumo

Bernard Ribémont is professor of Medieval Literary History at the Université d'Orléans, France, and one of the most important experts on text genres known as medieval encyclopedias. The history analyzes his recently published book, or rather, the critical translation of the Livre du Trésor, written by Brunetto Latini, a 13th century Italian notary. In his interview, the French medievalist investigates the development of studies on encyclopedias in contemporary historiography and in his own academic work. He even discourses on present challenges for young historians in France. Bernard Ribémont comments on the practices of the university system which he surmises that they hindered the progress of interdisciplinary studies in human sciences. He even criticizes the so-called French academism.
