Introduction: Cissus quadrangularis (Linn) has healing, analgesia and antiinflammatory effects. Phyllanthus reticulatus Poir (Linn) is used for treating skin wounds, burns and ulcers. Objectives: to compare the effectiveness of C. quandrangularis and P. reticulatus in wounds healing surgically induced in skin of guinea pigs, evaluating the healing time, microscopic and macroscopic healing variations and contamination degree. Methods: Was used in study 30 health guinea pigs, males, six months old, with mean weight of 650 grams. Three wounds were promoted in each animal in the dorsal region and the wound was treated, daily, with C. quandrangularis, saline solution 0.9% and with P. reticulatus. The biopsies were performed in Group I on the seventh day after the surgery, Group II on the fourteenth day and the Group III on the twenty-first day after the surgery and sent to histopathologycal evaluation. Results: on the seventh day of treatment the wounds which treated with C. quadrangularis were observed granulation tissue, while wounds treated with P. reticulatus were observed on the ninth day after. No healing significant difference occurred between the treatments. During the study was observed predominance of neutrophils in all wounds of all groups, more evident in those treated with C. quandrangularis. Conclusion: The wounds which treated with C. quandrangularis healed faster and showed less contamination degree than treated with P. reticulatus.en
