dc.description.abstractO presente trabalho procurou apresentar a relação que Sérgio Milliet, figura pública relevante na intelectualidade paulista da primeira metade do século XX, manteve com as ciências sociais de seu tempo. Assim, estabelecemos três eixos centrais de análise: a recomposição da trajetória que o levou ao envolvimento com esta tradição do saber – a qual também se confunde com o processo de institucionalização dela em São Paulo –; as especificidades do vínculo mantido com a disciplina, bem como das instituições nas quais tomou parte e que o envolviam no trato dela – como a Escola Livre de Sociologia e Política e o Departamento de Cultura do Município –; e, por fim, a sistematização e identificação das suas contribuições relacionadas a tais perspectivas de análise presentes em sua obra. Para tanto, assumimos como perspectiva privilegiada de análise uma preocupação com a seleção e a elaboração de testemunhos com a finalidade de, ao evidenciá-los, também evidenciarmos os aspectos que sugerem o cultivo, a presença e o abandono formal das ciências sociais em sua trajetória. Desta forma, foram explorados os vínculos mantidos com o movimento modernista que culminaram no seu envolvimento com a vida pública paulistana, processo este que o levou a envolver-se profundamente com as ciências sociais, em especial com a então recente tradição de estudos da sociologia norte-americana.pt
dc.description.abstractThe present work tried to present the relation that Sérgio Milliet, relevant public figure in the São Paulo intellectuality of the first half of the 20th century, maintained with the social sciences of his time. Thus, we established three central axes of analysis: the recomposition of the trajectory that led to the involvement with this tradition of knowledge, which is also confused with the process of institutionalization of it in São Paulo; the specificities of the link maintained with the discipline, as well as of the institutions in which it took part and that involved in the treatment of it, such as the Escola Livre de Sociologia e Política and the Departamento de Cultura do Município; and, finally, the systematization and identification of his contributions related to such perspectives of analysis present in his work. For this, we assume as a privileged perspective of analysis a concern with the selection and elaboration of testimonies with the purpose of demonstrating the aspects that suggest the cultivation, presence and formal abandonment of the social sciences in their trajectory. In this way, the ties maintained with the modernist movement that culminated in his involvement with public life in São Paulo were analyzed as part of the process that led him to become deeply involved with the social sciences, in particular with the then recent tradition of studies of the northamerican sociology.en
