A highly transmissible and pathogenic coronavirus known as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) became a threat to human health and public safety in late 2019 by causing 'coronavirus disease 2019' (COVID-19). While the scientific community has achieved rapid development of vaccines, there is still a tremendous need to find therapeutic agents against this pandemic viral pathogen. Peptides and peptide-based inhibitors represent an attractive alternative due to their ability to directly inhibit the function of the virus spike protein, preventing its potential to bind and enter host cells. In this review, we summarized some of the current computational tools for predicting/estimating the activity and stability of inhibitors based on polypeptides, as well as advances in related therapy research.
