Cenário atual e perspectivas do ferro fundido

Abstract

It is estimated that the cast iron, one of the oldest materials used by man, has been presente in the history of mankind for more than thirty centuries. There was a need to verify the current importance of cast iron for the world, with the arrival of technology and new materials. This work aims to bring and discuss possibilities of cast iron arround the world. A bibliographic review was made by a consolidated literature and the data survey has as source current journals, socioeconomic reports and conversations with professional in the field. From the information gathered, it was observed that there is still research being done by the industry with the academy to further develop this traditional material, although new classes of materials reach the market. It has also been noticed that the volume of this material production has grown slighty over the past decade, with some fluctuations due to the last economic crises in emerging countries.

Um dos materiais mais antigos utilizado pelo homem, estima-se que o ferro fundido esteve presente na história da humanidade há mais de trinta século. Com a chegada da tecnologia e novos materiais, observou-se a necessidade de verificar a importância atual do ferro fundido para o mundo. Esse trabalho tem como objetivo trazer e discutir as perspectivas do ferro fundido ao redor do mundo. A revisão bibliográfica foi feita através de literatura consolidada e os dados levantados possuem como fonte periódicos atuais, relatório socioeconômicos e conversas com profissionais do ramo. Apesar de novas classes de materiais chegarem ao mercado, a partir das informações levantadas observou-se que ainda há pesquisas sendo feitas pela indústria junto à academia para desenvolver ainda mais esse material tradicional. Também foi notado que o volume de produção desse material tem tido leve crescimento na última década, com algumas oscilações devido às últimas crises econômicas em países emergentes.
