Abstract
This article analyzes, from a comparative perspective, the presence of the literary genre filiation novel in Carola Saavedra's Com armas sonolentas (2018) and Jean Rhys's Voyage in the Dark (1934). Despite the temporal and geographical distances between the authors, both narratives, each in their own way, explore the trajectory of female protagonists who face family, financial and cultural challenges while building their own identities. According to Dominique Viart (2008), the filiation narrative has as its main characteristic the exploration of the protagonists' ancestry as part of the process of self-discovery; therefore, we investigated how the narrators of the novels under analysis reconstruct their genealogies, while seeking to know themselves.
