Resumo
The article attempts to reconstruct the trajectory of Américo Brasílio de Campos (1835-1900), a São Paulo journalist who worked in important vehicles of the written press in the capital of São Paulo in the second half of the 19th century, in addition to integrating a group of intellectuals and politicians at that juncture who called himself a republican. The objective is to show, through the reconstruction of Américo de Campos' trajectory, the mapping of the territories of intellectual and political engagement of the so-called men of letters in the context of the crisis of the monarchical political system: their forms of action, their networks of sociability, their belongings generational and their ideological affiliations. To this end, the notions developed by Jean-François Sirinelli are launched in terms of methodological scope, especially for the use of the notions of itineraries, generation and structures of sociability.
