Brazilian Network Meeting on Aspergillus fumigatus Antimicrobial Resistance

Abstract

This scientific meeting will bring together researchers, healthcare professionals, industry representatives, and policymakers to address the growing challenge of antifungal resistance in Aspergillus fumigatus, with a focus on the impact of agricultural fungicide use. The program includes clinical panels, technical sessions, thematic workgroups, policy roundtables with national and international authorities, and a global policy panel with representatives from FAO, CDC, Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA), Ministry of Health, Anvisa, Fiocruz, State Secretariats of Health, Environment and Agriculture, Embrapa, UNESP, UFSCar, USP, Unicamp, The University of Manchester (UK), University of Georgia (USA), and many other organizations. This meeting will foster focused, collaborative discussions and presentations, bringing together researchers, clinicians, industry representatives, and policymakers. The goal is to critically examine the bioecology of Aspergillus fumigatus and the escalating challenge of antimicrobial resistance, understanding the societal consequences of current policies and practices. We aim to identify gaps and develop actionable strategies that explicitly prioritize public health. Ultimately, this meeting seeks to inspire local Brazilian researchers and strengthen our collaborative network for impactful change. The event will culminate in the development and signing of a Public Motion for Health-First Fungicide Policies, consolidating institutional commitments to public health and the One Health approach.
