Resumo
Fashion arouses interest because, through it, we can observe social behaviors and notice the lexicon used to treat it. In this research, we chose to work with a periodical that circulated in Brazil from 1852 to 1854, Novo Correio das Modas, and to collect the lexical units that named clothing and accessories to assemble a corpus and analyze it in the light of lexicological studies, making files to analyze such items. It was concluded that the Portuguese language was increasingly asserting itself in the national territory within the lexical field of Fashion, despite the constant use of foreign lexical items.
