Resumo
The formation of dissipationless shock waves in Bose-Einstein condensates (BEC) along with repulsive interaction between atoms was investigated. The initial inhomogeneity of density, interplay of nonlinear and dispersion effects results in wave breaking phenomenon followed by generation of a train of dark solitons. Slowly propagating dark solitons as well as small amplitude sound waves propagating into undisturbed low density region were also observed. The results show that slowly propagating dark solitons are generated in transient layer, in order to reconcile two different values of velocities of disturbance propagation.
