destruição do cemento, ligamento periodontal e osso alveolar.
Periodontal disease is an inflammatory disease that affects the periodontium and has as its etiological agent the formation of a bacterial biofilm. The presence of these microorganisms causes an oral dysbiosis that has as its initial clinical manifestation gingivitis, which can evolve into periodontitis induce a loss of tooth attachment caused by the destruction of the cementum, periodontal ligament, and alveolar bone. This pathogenesis in dogs has the potential to generate eventual systemic disease through bacteremia and the inflammatory cytokines and other products of bacterial degradation. Thus, the present study aimed to relate periodontal disease with the occurrence of relevant systemic diseases in dogs and to cover possible systemic mechanisms responsible for this relationship
