dc.description.abstractA maneira por meio da qual as revistas científicas expõem as informações vem progredindo gradativamente no decorrer dos três últimos séculos, devido às transformações tecnológicas. The Journal of Venomous Animals and Toxins (JVAT) (ISSN 0104-7930), a primeira revista digital científica do Brasil, é mantida e editada ininterruptamente pelo Centro de Estudos de Venenos e Animais Peçonhentos da UNESP (CEVAP) desde 1995. Sempre foi escrita em inglês, inicialmente com periodicidade semestral e distribuída em disquetes de 3,5’. A partir de 1998 além de ser distribuída na forma de CD-ROM ainda foi selecionada para participar do Projeto SciELO (http://www.scielo.br). Em 2003 as Doenças Tropicais foram incluídas no seu escopo com objetivo de proporcionar maior abrangência à publicação. Denominouse a partir de então The Journal of Venomous Animals and Toxins including Tropical Diseases (JVATiTD) (ISSN 1678-9199). Em 2004 iniciou a periodicidade quadrimestral e, finalmente, distribuída somente na forma online, por meio do site http://www.jvat.org.br. A partir de 2005 passou a periodicidade trimestral e em 2006 foi selecionada para integrar o Science Citation Index Expanded (Web of Science da Clarivate Analytics®) e o indexador Scopus–Scimago da Elsevier®. Anualmente estes indexadores publicam respectivamente o Fator de Impacto no InCites Journal Citation Reports e o Cites/Doc e o CiteScore no Scimago Journal and Country Rank. O periódico atualmente é indexado nas seguintes Bases de dados: nacionais SciELO e LILACS; internacionais Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics®), Scopus (Scimago – Elsevier®), PubMed, PubMed Central, Europe PubMed Central, BIOSIS, CABI, CAS, CSA, EBSCO, Embase, Global Health, Google Scholar, ProQuest, Zoological Record e Biological Abstract. Entre 2006 e 2011 o Fator de Impacto ficou estável entre 0.35 e 0.55. Assim, novas iniciativas se fizeram necessárias para aumentar esta métrica. Em 2012 decidiu-se buscar um parceiro internacional, que mantivesse o acesso aberto e gratuito, e que contribuísse na melhoria do periódico, inclusive conquistando-se novos indexadores. Optou-se pela BioMed Central http://www.biomedcentral.com, que além de disponibilizar um editor nativo da língua inglesa, comprometeu-se a colaborar nestas ações. No início de 2013 esta parceria se consolidou, adotou-se a política de cobrança dos artigos publicados (APCs – article processing charge) e a publicação tornou-se em fluxo contínuo. Em junho 4 deste mesmo ano foi indexada no PubMed, PubMed Central e Europe PubMed Central https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/journals/2145/. A partir de 2015 o periódico foi classificado pelo novo Programa WebQualis da CAPES nos seguintes estratos, a saber: B1: Medicina Veterinária, Zootecnia/Recursos Pesqueiros; B2: Medicina I, Medicina II, Odontologia, Saúde Coletiva, Farmácia; B3: Ciências Biológicas I, Ciências Biológicas II, Ciências Biológicas III. Em 2019 o Programa WebQualis da CAPES reestruturou o seu sistema de avaliação classificando agora o JVATiTD como A3. Em 2018, havia necessidade de renovar o contrato entre a UNESP e a BioMed Central pertencente atualmente ao grupo Springer-Nature. Como os recursos financeiros para manter esta parceria estavam além das possibilidades universitárias decidiu-se retornar a publicar no Brasil. O SciELO aceitou e acolheu o desafio com a perspectiva de se estabelecer um protocolo de sustentabilidade a médio prazo, cobrando-se por artigo publicado, e deixando sob a responsabilidade da equipe do JVATiTD em desenvolver um novo layout. Os desafios e objetivos deste trabalho foram os de desenvolver um novo site sustentado por um robusto sistema de gestão de artigos, que fosse atraente, customizado, amigável e de nível internacional. Este projeto teve início em 2019, se consolidou em 2020 e está disponível no site http://www.jvat.org.pt
dc.description.abstractThe way in which academic journals expose information has been progressing gradually over the past three centuries, due to technological changes. The Journal of Venomous Animals and Toxins (JVAT) (ISSN 0104-7930), the first digital academic journal in Brazil, is maintained and edited continuously by São Paulo State University (UNESP)’s Venoms and Venomous Animals Study Center (CEVAP) at since 1995. It has always been written in English, initially semiannually and distributed on 3.5 'diskettes. As of 1998, in addition to being distributed in the form of CD-ROM, it was also selected to participate in the SciELO Project (http://www.scielo.br). In 2003, Tropical Diseases were included in its scope to provide greater coverage to the publication. It has since been called The Journal of Venomous Animals and Toxins, including Tropical Diseases (JVATiTD) (ISSN 1678-9199). In 2004, it started to be published every four months and, finally, distributed only online, through the website http://www.jvat.org.br. From 2005 it started to be posted quarterly and in 2006 it was selected to integrate the Science Citation Index Expanded (Web of Science by Clarivate Analytics®) and the Scopus – Scimago index by Elsevier®. Annually these indexers publish the Impact Factor in the InCites Journal Citation Reports and the Cites/Doc and CiteScore in the Scimago Journal and Country Rank, respectively. The journal is currently indexed in the following databases: the Brazilians SciELO and LILACS; the internationals Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics®), Scopus (Scimago - Elsevier®), PubMed, PubMed Central, Europe PubMed Central, BIOSIS, CABI, CAS, CSA, EBSCO, Embase, Global Health, Google Scholar, ProQuest, Zoological Record and Biological Abstract. Between 2006 and 2011 the Impact Factor was stable between 0.35 and 0.55. Thus, new initiatives were made necessary to increase this metric. In 2012, it was decided to look for an international partner, who would maintain open and free access, and who would contribute to the improvement of the journal, including conquering new indexes. It was opted for BioMed Central http://www.biomedcentral.com, which in addition to providing a native English-speaking editor, committed to collaborate in these actions. In early 2013, this partnership was consolidated, adopting the policy for charging 7 published articles (APCs - article processing charge) and the publication became in continuous flow. In June of the same year, it was indexed in PubMed, PubMed Central and Europe PubMed Central https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/journals/2145/. As from 2015, the journal was classified by the new CAPES WebQualis Program in the following strata, namely: B1: Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science/Fishery Resources; B2: Medicine I, Medicine II, Dentistry, Public Health, Pharmacy; B3: Biological Sciences I, Biological Sciences II, Biological Sciences III. In 2019, CAPES WebQualis Program restructured its evaluation system, now classifying JVATiTD as A3. In 2018, there was a need to renew the contract between UNESP and BioMed Central currently belonging to the group Springer-Nature group. As the financial resources to maintain this partnership were beyond university possibilities, it was decided to return to publishing in Brazil. SciELO accepted and welcomed the challenge with the prospect of establishing a medium-term sustainability protocol, charging itself for every published article, and attributed the responsibility of developing a new layout for the journal to the JVTAiTD. The challenges and objectives of this work were to develop a new website supported by a robust article management system, which was attractive, customized, and internationally friendly. This project started in 2019, was consolidated in 2020 and is available on the website http://www.jvat.org.en
