Descrição da osteologia cranial de Phyllomedusa burmeisteri Boulenger, 1882 e Phyllomedusa bahiana Lutz, 1925

Abstract

O histórico taxonômico de Phyllomedusa burmeisteri e Phyllomedusa bahiana apresenta uma divergência de opiniões graças à grande similaridade na morfologia externa e na coloração dos adultos de ambas as espécies. Existe uma necessidade de integrar um maior conjunto de dados para a compreensão da taxonomia, sistemática e dos processos evolutivos que levaram à diversificação dessas duas espécies. Diante disso, este trabalho visa descrever, comparativamente, a osteologia de P. bahiana e P. burmeisteri, gerando novas evidências que possam auxiliar na diagnose de ambas. Foram selecionados dois machos de P. burmeisteri e três machos de P. bahiana dentro da disponibilidade das coleções. Os crânios de adultos Phyllomedusa burmeisteri e P. bahiana indicam variações sutis entre si, inclusive podem ser caracterizadas como diferenças populacionais e/ou entre os indivíduos analisados. As características do crânio indicam a presença de possíveis sinapomorfias osteológicas a serem testadas para o gênero Phyllomedusa em comparação aos outros gêneros da subfamília Phyllomedusinae.

The taxonomic history of Phyllomedusa burmeisteri and Phyllomedusa bahiana has been a subject of debate due to their striking similarity in external morphology and adult coloration. There is a need to integrate a more comprehensive set of data to understand the taxonomy, systematics, and the evolutionary processes that led to the diversification of these two species. In light of this, this work aims to comparatively describe the osteology of P. bahiana and P. burmeisteri, generating new evidence that can assist in the diagnosis of both. Two males of P. burmeisteri and three males of P. bahiana were selected from the available collections. The skulls of adult Phyllomedusa burmeisteri and P. bahiana show subtle variations between them, which may be characterized as population differences and/or individual variation. investigate sexual dimorphism.The characteristics of the skull indicate the presence of possible osteological synapomorphies to be tested for the genus Phyllomedusa in comparison to the other genera of the subfamily Phyllomedusinae.
