Abstract
Abstract (english)
Water is considered an essential nutrient for any animal category, especially for
dairy cows as they have a greater water requirement than other animals, as
87% of milk is made up of water. The water intake of these animals depends on
some factors, including their body weight, the composition of the diet offered,
the amount of dry matter ingested, the stage of lactation they are in and the
climatic conditions where they live. Dairy farms must offer clean, good quality
water, always being close to the animals, in order to reduce their metabolic
activity when looking for drinking fountains far away, especially in the summer,
avoiding thermal stress during periods of high temperatures. The lack of any of
these factors can cause a reduction in milk productivity, generating health and
financial losses.
Abstract (portuguese)
A água é considerada um nutriente essencial para qualquer categoria animal, em especial para as vacas leiteiras pois elas apresentam uma necessidade hídrica maior que os demais animais, já que 87% do leite é composto por água. A ingestão hídrica desses animais depende de alguns fatores, entre eles, seu peso corporal, a composição da dieta oferecida, a quantidade de matéria seca ingerida, a fase de lactação a qual se encontra e as condições climáticas onde vivem. As fazendas de produção leiteira devem oferecer água limpa, de boa qualidade, estando sempre próxima aos animais, afim de reduzir sua atividade metabólica ao procurar bebedouros longe, especialmente no período de verão, evitando um estresse térmico durante períodos de temperaturas altas. A falta de qualquer um destes fatores, pode ocasionar uma redução na produtividade leiteira, gerando prejuízos sanitários e financeiros.
