Abstract

The presence of constitutive heterochromatin on the Z and W chromosomes of four Leporinus species (L. Elongalus. L. Obtusidens, L. Reinhardti.and Leporinus sp.) was studied by C-banding. A hypothetical role of the heterochromatin in the differentiation of the sex determination system in these fishes is proposed. © 1986 S. Karger AG, Basel.
