Karol Wojtyła e seu papel internacional na Polônia da Guerra Fria

Abstract

Este trabalho busca analisar o papel do Papa João Paulo II como expressão da hegemonia religiosa na sociedade civil polonesa e sua contribuição para o enfraquecimento do regime socialista na Polônia entre 1978 e 1989. Parte-se da hipótese de que, através de sua aproximação ao sindicato oposicionista Solidariedade, João Paulo II desempenhou uma função decisiva no estabelecimento da luta oposicionista dentro da sociedade civil, e gradativamente do Estado, favorecendo a ruptura da ordem socialista, alterando a conjuntura política e o campo simbólico do país. A pesquisa divide-se em dois capítulos. O primeiro contempla o período de 1978 a 1985, com foco nos primeiros anos do Papado, na intensificação da resistência civil e nos efeitos da imposição da Lei Marcial. O segundo capítulo abrange o intervalo de 1985 a 1989, marcado pela implementação das reformas soviéticas Perestroika e Glasnost. Dessa forma, o estudo evidencia como a Igreja, através da liderança de João Paulo II, atuou como aparelho hegemônico estratégico na reconfiguração do campo político polonês, contribuindo para o colapso do regime socialista no contexto da Guerra Fria.

This work seeks to analyze the role of Pope John Paul II as an expression of religious hegemony in Polish civil society and his contribution to the weakening of the socialist regime in Poland between 1978 and 1989. The hypothesis suggests that, through his approach with the opposition trade union Solidarity, John Paul II played a decisive role in establishing the opposition within civil society and, gradually, within the State, favoring the rupture of the socialist order, altering the political conjuncture and the symbolic field of the country. The research is divided into two chapters. The first covers the period from 1978 to 1985, focusing on the early years of the papacy, the intensification of civil resistance, and the effects of the imposition of Martial Law. The second chapter covers the period from 1985 to 1989, marked by the implementation of the Soviet reforms Perestroika and Glasnost. Thus, the study highlights how the Church, through the leadership of John Paul II, acted as a strategic hegemonic apparatus in the reconfiguration of the Polish political landscape, contributing to the collapse of the socialist regime in the context of the Cold War.
